Freedom and Glory

Freedom and Glory Stories that celebrate the American spirit. Podcast + flags since 1980. Hillsborough, NC. 🇺🇸 In 1980, a guy in Chicago started selling flags from his attic.

Not because he dreamed of building a company. Because he wanted to build something that mattered. Something he could be proud of. And he believed it was worth the risk. Forty-five years later, his daughter runs that company. We’ve sold thousands of flags—each one crafted in America. But somewhere along the way, we realized something. The flags were never really the point. It’s the stories. The vet

eran who organized a memorial that brought his whole town together. The teacher who turned her students into community leaders. The small business owner who keeps her town’s Main Street alive. The neighbor who just shows up. So we started a podcast. Tales of American Spirit. Every month, Liz Morris and Bill LuMaye sit down with people like that. Not celebrities. Just Americans proving what one person can do. We share your stories too—why you fly your flag, what it means to you, the traditions you’re keeping alive. This page is for all of that. For celebrating what’s possible when people show up. For reminding each other that the American spirit isn’t something we had—it’s something we’re creating right now. Listen to the podcast. Share your flag story. Join the conversation. 🇺🇸

Spent some time this week thinking about what the country turning 250 actually means. Ended up on something about the flag I’d never quite put together.

When a new state joined the union, the star didn’t go up on the flag the day they joined. It had to wait for the next Fourth of July. Hawaii became a state in August of 1959, but its star didn’t appear until July 4th, 1960. For almost a year, we were flying a 49-star flag over a country with 50 states.

Which means every star on that flag has the same birthday as the country.
Going to be looking at that flag a little differently this summer.

Walk into any store and pick up an American flag. About half the time, it was made in China.
About 6.5 million imported flags come into this country every year. When people ask why ours cost more, the honest answer is simple: we hire American workers, we use American materials, and that’s something we’re proud of.

People ask us all the time which American flag to buy. The honest answer is that it depends on where you’re flying it.

Nylon – What most people want. It’s lightweight enough to fly in normal wind, holds up well outdoors, and dries quickly after rain. For the average front porch or flagpole, nylon is usually the best choice.

Cotton – Best for indoor use. It has the classic, traditional look people picture when they think of an American flag, but it’s not designed for daily outdoor weather. Ideal for indoor display or ceremonial use.

Polyester – The workhorse option. If you live somewhere with strong wind, salt air, or harsh weather that wears flags out quickly, polyester is built to last.

Not sure which one is right for you? Just ask. We’ve been helping people choose the right flags for years, and we’d rather help you find the best fit than have you guess.

A hurricane warning has been issued, and the storm's headed west. 🚩🚩

It's Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final, and Canes Nation doesn't stay home. Carolina carries the whole state on the road with them, and we're flying the flag right alongside you.

Let's go, Canes. 🌀

Not all American flags are created equal. If you care where yours was made, check the label.
This is our Patriarch flag, made entirely here in America. Same quality we’ve always stood behind, now with our new name on it.

This is Freedom and Glory.

Before weather apps or the sirens, a flag on a pole was the only warning a town got. We just raised two. 🚩🚩

Hurricanes don't back down and neither does Carolina. Let's bring it home, Canes. 🌀

There's no rule you have to go big for the Fourth. A handful of flags down the driveway, a few along the walkway, and the whole place feels ready. The year the country turns 250 is a good one for it. Find them at freedomandglory.com.
Create a celebration. Make it yours.
