It’s just about the time where our social media content will differ a little in comparison to what you see during the other months of the year.

Here’s why- during November and December we lean into seasonal services to help bring a little extra holiday magic to Westmoreland county by offering in home wreath decorating workshops, igloo rentals and professional holiday decorating.

What you may not know though, is that that making holiday magic isn’t a new thing for me. I spent my whole childhood living on a Christmas tree farm in Indiana County where our family has been delivering holiday magic for the last 30 years.

It feels wild to say this but I’m almost entirely sold out of wreath workshop spots. Past hosts have already rebooked months ago and because of that it’s required very little marketing to sell out.

There’s a feeling that’s hard to explain when you become the family who transformed another families home. It creates a connection that won’t ever go away.

Just doing it once is a really special feeling, but having the opportunity to take on multiple projects at a family’s home year after year creates a sense of pride that’s actually hard to describe.

The Zorn family has now hired us countless times over the years and became the kind of clients we now consider a friend.

The first hire was was for a very large backyard transformation. The second was for a driveway enhancement for additional parking, a wall and shed pad area. The third hire was for the front entry refresh we just recently shared.

We also have had the opportunity to come to their home to host two wreath workshops and will return again in a few weeks for a third this holiday season.

Great businesses are built by repeat clients. We will forever value the Zorn family and the opportunities they have extended to over the years.

Last evening felt important. Not because I got to learn a new skill. Instead, because I was given a beautiful reminder of what our business has actually given me. New friendships and relationships that go far beyond the projects.

At this time last year, I didn’t know this person would soon be entering my life.

In December, I rented an igloo to this woman.
In March, I had the honor of planning and designing an entirely new landscape plan for her and her family.
In June we got to install it.
In July and August I got text updates from her often of her plant babies taking off. Her excitement made my day each time she messaged me.
In September she invited me to take class at Phipps with her.
In October I spent the evening with her. Not as her landscape designer, but instead as her friend.
In November, I’m meeting with her again to plan out her phase two landscaping for next year.
In a December, I’m coming back to host a wreath workshop at her home.

Kristen didn’t just become one of my clients this year. She became what I would consider a testimony of true success in the business world- it happens when you form such a nice relationship with a client they become more than that- they become a friend.

I’m grateful for the value you added to my life this year Kristen. So glad God had our paths cross the way He did. You made my job extra fun this year and you became another friend I can share my love of horticulture with. Thanks for inviting me last night and for the opportunities you continue to send my way. It matters more than you will ever know. 🩷I’m glad to be your friend.

Many of you have followed along to watch Kevin build Scaped Outdoors’ projects for the last five years. Today we’re sharing what it would be like to work alongside him and a little more about where we are headed as a company.

Kevin is an exceptionally skilled craftsman, with particular expertise in heavy equipment operation, excavation, and the technical details of hardscape construction. He has spent decades mastering his trade, and now he’s preparing to pass that knowledge along to someone else.

He’s CMHA certified, incredibly detail-oriented, and a perfectionist when it comes to craftsmanship.

His standards are nonnegotiable. From proper installation methods and material selection to the way we care for our clients, he believes every detail matters.

Kevin will teach you why things are done a certain way, how to work efficiently without compromising quality, and what it takes to build projects that stand the test of time.

For the first time in Scaped’s history, we’re preparing to hand over the day-to-day leadership of our projects to someone other than Kevin. That’s a big step for us, and one we’re approaching very intentionally.

Until now, Kevin has personally built every Scaped project, whether working independently or alongside others. As we grow, he’s preparing to mentor someone who can take the lead in the field while carrying forward the standards our clients have come to expect.

We’re looking for someone who’s ready to lead. Someone who brings their own experience, ideas, and expertise to the table. Someone Kevin can mentor, collaborate with, and ultimately trust to take ownership of our daily field operations.

Rest assured though, Kevin isn’t stepping away from our projects. He will remain actively involved in project operations, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and quality oversight while giving our foreman room to lead.

The person we are looking for is someone who takes tremendous pride in their craftsmanship, welcomes high standards, and wants to keep growing professionally.

You might be stepping into Kevin’s “boots”, but you won’t be expected to fill them alone.

scale. Here’s why.

Sarah’s background is in business education and educational leadership. She’s spent more than two decades studying business and 17 years teaching it through classroom education, entrepreneurship, consulting and private one on one coaching.

What’s especially interesting is that every single book you see on these shelves has been read, highlighted, underlined, and filled with notes by her over the years. What you can see in the photo is only one section of the giant collection of resources that fill her office.

Last week’s post about our upcoming hardscape foreman position was well received and for that we are incredibly grateful.

Given the interest in the position, we thought it would be a good idea to spend some time this week teaching you more about the founders behind Scaped and the values and leadership you would be coming into as a part of our team.

Today we wanted to ensure you of something. We value the life you have outside of work and want you to know we want you home for dinner time. We want you to be able to take a family vacation and not have work follow you on the trip. We want you to spend Sundays relaxing not putting in overtime. Please know that working for us will mean you work for a company who values who you get to be outside of your work-life.

Workday hours are 8-5. PM. You will work at properties across Westmoreland County and your Saturdays and Sundays will always be your time.

We already did the hard part for you in the beginning years of building Scaped working nights and weekends and we won’t ask it of any of our employees. It came with too high of a price tag when our kids were so small. Now they watch mom and dad build a business together and include them in it, but also have a life outside of the work too. You have our word- we aren’t going back to that kind of schedule.
