Code Red Alert: July 23–24, 8:00 AM–8:00 PM
Due to extreme heat, the City of Lansing has authorized a Code Red for Wednesday and Thursday. Cooling centers are open across the city to help residents stay safe.
Community Centers (8:30 AM – 8:45 PM)
• Letts – 1220 W. Kalamazoo St.
• Foster – 200 N. Foster St.
• Gier – 2400 Hall St.
• Alfreda Schmidt Southside – 5825 Wise Rd.
Additional Air-Conditioned Locations:
• Capital Area District Library (10 AM – 8 PM)
Downtown Branch – 401 S. Capitol Ave
South Lansing Branch – 3500 S. Cedar St
• CATA Transportation Center (7 AM – 7 PM) – 420 S. Grand Ave
Family Cooling Options:
• Hunter Park Pool – 1400 Fuller St

Important Note:
BWL will not perform electric shut-offs during Code Red.
Stay Safe Tips:
• Stay hydrated
• Avoid midday outdoor activity
• Wear light, breathable clothing
• Use sunscreen
• Stay in air-conditioned spaces
• Check on vulnerable individuals
• Protect pets from heat and hot pavement
• Know signs of heat illness (e.g., headache, nausea, dizziness) and seek help if needed
