Picked a fresh batch of Winged Sumac (Rhus copallina) today. That distinct winged stem makes it super easy to spot out in the wild! The fuzzy red berries are packed with natural malic acid, making them perfectly tart.

Currently steeping them in cool water to make a batch of wild "sumacade"…nature’s cold brewed lemonade!

Also, placed some berries in a dehydrator for tea blends 💜

Beyond the Jelly: Surprising Ways to Use American Beautyberry

Heading out to the beautyberry patch this week? If your counter is already full of jam jars, don't leave those vibrant purple berries behind just yet! While most foragers reach for jelly or bug spray, Callicarpa americana has a lot more to offer.

Here are 3 unique ways to use your harvest:

🥗 Salad Dressing: Steep berries in apple cider vinegar for 2 weeks, strain, and add sugar to make a tangy, sweet dressing base.
☕ Winter Herbal Tea: Dehydrate berries and combine them with citrus peel, ginger, and cinnamon for a warming tea that helps soothe indigestion and upset stomach.
🍯 Beautyberry Infused Honey: Dehydrate the berries, make a tincture, and infuse it into honey for a sweet herbal treat.

Have you ever tried using beautyberry beyond jelly? Let me know your favorite recipes below! 👇

Thought I was getting a lab assistant today, but turns out Adam was just here for… emotional support and encouragement!

Watch us whip up a fresh batch of handcrafted activated charcoal and botanical soap. Adam may not have mixed the ingredients, but his moral support was top-tier!

Does anyone else have a "helper" who mostly just stands there looking good while you do all the work? 👇

Last year was a total scramble to get just one piece finished on a crazy time crunch. This year felt so different… I had the time to really get into the flow and knock out two paintings that I absolutely adore: Unseen Suwannee and The Monarch Moon.

What’s wild is that I didn't plan any of it ahead of time, but when I stepped back and put them side-by-side, I realized how much they secretly talk to each other.

In Unseen Suwannee, you get that bold, tranquil reflection across the river with the glowing dual suns. Over in The Monarch Moon, that reflection turns into a quiet blue pond at the base of the tree… that kind of deep stillness that only happens when you take a second to stop and reflect.

For The Monarch Moon, I wanted to capture the beauty of transformation. Monarchs are such a powerful symbol of growth and change, and I love the idea of looking at the world through their eyes… instead of a "man in the moon," maybe they see a moon woven entirely out of intricate flowers. Framing it all is the weeping willow tree, which is just so whimsical, stunning, and inspiring... its cascading leaves almost feel like they're reaching out to wrap you in a hug.

It’s amazing what comes out on the canvas when you just let yourself paint whats in your head. Wish me luck at Art Fest this year! I’d love to know… which one of these two speaks to you more? 👇

I Think I’m Being Watched… 👀

I thought the lizard was plotting on the grasshopper, but it turns out both of them were just sizing me up.

Pretty sure they were forming a temporary alliance to target the real intruder: me. If I stop posting, you know who the main suspects are! 😂

Shhh… don’t tell the other plants, but here are a few of my current greenhouse favorites!

Here is a look at what’s growing in the greenhouse right now:
🌱 Vanilla Bean Orchid: Grown right from a cutting!
🌱 Purple Orchid Trees: Grown from seed and turning one year old!
🌱 Common Mullein: Letting this beauty go to seed so we have plenty of babies ready for spring!
🌱 Bald Cypress Cluster: Grown from seeds gathered right along the Suwannee River.
🌱 Mystery Fig Tree: You know I love propagating… no idea what variety this one is yet, but it’s thriving!
🌱 Coral Bean: A Florida native favorite with gorgeous red flower spikes that the hummingbirds absolutely adore.

If a hurricane or natural disaster hit today, these are the plant babies I’d be grabbing first!

If you could only save ONE plant from your collection, which one would you rescue? Let me know in the comments!

What an incredible afternoon at the inaugural Women Business Owners of North Florida Collective Founding Luncheon!

It was so inspiring to connect with so many talented, driven women business owners from across Suwannee, Columbia, Hamilton, and neighboring counties. Business ownership can definitely feel isolating at times, but today proved how strong our local community really is.

Huge thank you to Vanesa Castillo and Porsha Cole for bringing us all together at Downtown Cafe! Excited to see this community grow!
