But one licensing mistake continues to catch newer contractors off guard: a battery is not automatically within the scope of a solar contract just because it is installed near a photovoltaic system.

Battery work can trigger a need for an additional classification, particularly the C-10 Electrical classification. The right answer depends on what is being installed, who is contracting for the work, and whether the project involves electrical connection work.

A lot of California tradespeople wait to pursue a contractor license because work is already coming in.
