Two stories, one sweeping staircase and a white Ascenda right beside it. Our crew put this one in a grand foyer, and now it looks like the house was designed around it. Would you have spotted it first? Book an in-home consultation.

Do you have to renovate to add a home elevator?

The answer to this is no. Some home elevators are built to reduce the construction needed in an existing house.

For example, a traditional Cibes Symmetry residential elevator uses both hydraulic and inline gear-drive systems, with beautiful finishes and nice doors. This is a good solution for higher-rise homes.

The Cibes Air is a very unique solution for homeowners; it comes with a prefabricated high-end safety glass shaft with beautiful glass swing doors. It’s hard to find a vertical platform lift in North America that is this sleek. It is a quiet screw-driven drive system that requires no machine room or pit.

For a two-story house, a through-the-floor elevator such as the Cibes Ascenda is another unique approach. Instead of installing an enclosed shaft through several levels, the elevator travels through an opening between the two floors or to a balcony with an integrated landing gate system.

Joe's elevator went in back in 2013, and his latest service visit still earned five stars. Thanks for the kind words, Joe. We'll make sure Andrew sees this one. Need a service visit or a new elevator? Book an in-home consultation.

What's the best small home elevator?

No single home elevator fits every house, but the two home elevators generally considered best are the Cibes Air and the Cibes Ascenda.

1. Cibes Symmetry Traditional Residential Elevator

For a traditional home elevator in a multi-story home, Cibes Symmetry’s Home Elevator offers the most travel with the greatest capacity. We offer both hydraulic and inline gear-drive residential elevators that can service up to six stops and travel 50 feet. We have unique door solutions and nice cabin finishes.

2. Cibes Ascenda

Ascenda is designed for a two-story home where limiting construction costs and time is important. Unlike other home elevators, it does not require a shaft, pit, or machine room. Ascenda can carry up to 770 pounds and will travel up to fourteen feet. Ascenda also offers four cab size configurations, including an "XL" option for wheelchair users. All Ascendas come standard with automatic doors.

Which home elevator best suits your needs? Begin by evaluating your house.

How many levels does your house have?
What space do you have available?
Do you have wheelchair access issues?
Do you have specific construction requirements you must meet?
