Warm surface air has penetrated the cap here in DFW, allowing warm air to rush up into the cold atmosphere, resulting in rapid forming thunderstorms.
As can be seen in the video, the weather front that’s moving East to West across DFW (moving line in front of the majority of the storms) has broken through that barrier (“cap”) and is producing widespread thunderstorms as it travels across Texas.
This is a very good visualization of how storms are created and how they formulate so rapidly.
