School break gives our crews a great opportunity to get into facilities and complete major flooring upgrades before students return. One of our current summer projects is at Skyview High School, where we’re transforming an existing floor into a polished concrete finish built for long-term performance.

This type of work starts well before the polishing begins. Our team removes the existing flooring, scrapes the surface, grinds away old adhesive and mastic, repairs damaged areas, and fills joints to create a cleaner, more uniform concrete surface. From there, the floor goes through a detailed polishing process that gradually refines the concrete to a high-sheen finish. After densifying and sealing, the result is a durable, attractive floor that is ready to handle daily use.

For schools, polished concrete is a smart investment. It holds up well under heavy foot traffic, is easier to maintain than many traditional flooring options, and eliminates the need for ongoing waxing or frequent replacement. It also gives hallways, classrooms, cafeterias, and common areas a clean, modern look while helping reduce long-term maintenance costs.

Summer is one of the busiest seasons for school flooring projects, and Skyview High School is one of the facilities we’re currently working on while students are out for break.

For this project, our team is converting existing flooring into a polished concrete system. The process includes scraping and removing the existing floor covering, grinding off the old mastic, patching concrete imperfections, filling joints, and then completing a multi-step polishing process to bring the floor to a high-sheen finish. Once polished, the concrete is densified and sealed for long-term durability and protection.

Polished concrete is a great solution for schools because it provides a clean, durable, and low-maintenance surface that can withstand heavy student traffic year after year. Unlike many traditional flooring systems, polished concrete does not require waxing or frequent replacement, helping schools reduce long-term maintenance costs while improving the overall appearance of the space.

Can resinous flooring systems be installed over existing tile?

In some cases, yes — as long as the tile is structurally sound and properly bonded to the substrate.

For this commercial kitchen, we first evaluated the existing tile system to make sure it was a suitable surface. From there, we installed a thick cementitious urethane layer to seal the tile and grout lines, creating a strong foundation for the new flooring system.

We then finished it with a multi-layer quartz broadcast system and a durable polyaspartic topcoat, giving the kitchen a seamless, sanitary, and long-lasting surface built for heavy commercial use.

A great example of how the right prep and product selection can transform an existing floor without a full tear-out.

Our team is currently out at Lexus of Vancouver performing concrete repairs and installing a new traffic coating system throughout sections of their parking structure.

This project presented a unique challenge, as the perimeter edges of the structure were experiencing significant cracking and water intrusion that had begun compromising the long-term integrity of the garage. To address the issue, we thoroughly prepped the affected areas, completed concrete patching and repairs, and installed a heavy-duty traffic coating system with a textured finish for added durability, slip resistance, and waterproof protection.

Systems like this are essential for extending the life of parking structures by preventing moisture intrusion, protecting reinforced concrete, and creating a safer, more durable surface built to withstand constant vehicle traffic and exposure to the elements.

This week, our team completed a waterproofing restoration project at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, where a damaged exterior awning had begun leaking water through the roof system.

After properly preparing and repairing the surface, we installed a new waterproof membrane system utilizing high-performance materials from Sika USA to fully seal and protect the structure from future moisture intrusion.

This wash bay had seen some serious wear. Years of constant water and detergent exposure had left the concrete badly degraded, with the aggregate fully exposed and breaking down. Our team cleaned and prepped the area, then installed a new self-leveling repair system to bring the floor back to life with a fresh, renewed finish.
