Let’s clear up a common idea: “If I have gutter guards, I’m all set.”

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

In Washington, pine needles are tiny and sneaky.

They can still slide in. They can still stack up. And once stuff gets wet, it can clump together like a mat.

So even with guards, it’s smart to check your gutters and downspouts now and then.

Because if water can’t drain, it can cause problems fast. Overflow. Backflow. Staining. Rot near the edges.

Also, some guards can hide the problem. Everything looks fine from the ground… until the next big rain and water pours over the gutter like a waterfall.

This is why we look at roof + gutters together during a roof evaluation.

They work as a team. If one part is failing, the other can suffer.

One thing we care about that most people don’t think about: your yard.

Roof work can get messy. Shingles come off. Nails happen. Debris falls. That’s just real life.
But a good crew plans for it.

We protect areas around the home.

We keep things organized.

And we clean up like we mean it.

Because nobody wants to finish a roof job and then worry about finding nails in the driveway. Or have a kid step on something. Or deal with scraps in the flower beds.

If you’ve ever had work done at your house and felt like the cleanup was rushed, you know how annoying that is.

That’s also why we like doing roof evaluations before the busy season hits. It gives you time to ask questions.

Time to plan.

Time to feel comfortable with what’s happening.

Question: what matters more to you—fast job, clean job, or both?

New homeowner tip (or “I wish someone told me this” tip):

𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀.

Most problems don’t start in the middle of the roof. They start at the edges. Gutters. Downspouts. Valleys. Spots where water is supposed to move fast.

If gutters are clogged with needles, water spills over. If downspouts are blocked, water backs up. If valleys are packed with debris, water slows down and sits.

And in Washington, sitting water is the enemy. It leads to moss. It leads to rot. It leads to leaks.

A lot of homeowners don’t think about this until they see water marks inside. But by then, it’s already been happening for a while.

So here’s the easy win: get a roof evaluation before the busy season hits. Even if everything is fine, you’ll know. And if something needs attention, you can plan it. Planning is way better than surprise leaks.

Most moss in Washington starts on the same side of the roof.

The shady side. Usually the north side. The side that stays damp longer.

It starts tiny. Just a little green patch.

Then it grows.

Then pine needles stick to it.

Then it holds even more water.

It’s like a wet sponge sitting on your shingles.

And here’s the big deal: moss doesn’t just look bad. It can help wear out your roof faster. It can lift shingle edges. It can slow water down. Over time, that can lead to trouble.

The good news? You can stay ahead of it. Roof cleaning and roof care are normal in the PNW. It’s part of owning a home here, like clearing leaves in the fall.

If you’re seeing green patches, or you’ve been thinking, “We should probably handle that,” do it before the busy season hits.

It’s easier to schedule now. And it’s less stressful than waiting until there’s a leak.

Be honest—do you have moss right now? Yes or no?

Washington weekend reminder 🌧️🌲

If you’ve got a free 10 minutes this weekend, do this quick “outside walk” around your house. It can save you a headache later.

Start at the driveway and look up.

Do you see:

⁉️ moss on the shady side of the roof?
⁉️ piles of pine needles sitting in roof valleys?
⁉️ gutters that look full or sagging?
⁉️ dark streaks on shingles?
⁉️ a spot that looks uneven?

None of this means “panic.” It just means your roof might need some care. Around here, roofs don’t stay clean on their own. The rain and trees make sure of that.

And please don’t climb up there. Wet roofs are slick. It’s not worth a fall.

If you notice something and you want peace of mind, this is the best time to schedule. Before the busy season hits.

Before the first hot stretch when everyone suddenly remembers their roof.

We’ll take a look, show you what we see, and give you a clear next step.

Let’s talk about the “one drip” that people ignore.

You see a tiny water spot. Or one little drip near a vent. Then it stops. So you think, “Eh… it’s fine.”

But here’s what usually happens next.

It comes back during the next heavy rain. Then it spreads. Then you’re dealing with wet drywall, insulation, or wood.

In our area, roofs take a beating. Rain, wind, pine needles, and moss all add up. And leaks don’t always mean your whole roof is bad. A lot of times it’s one weak spot. A seal around a pipe. A piece of metal (flashing). A lifted shingle. Something small.

That’s why a roof evaluation is helpful. We can find the spot before it turns into a bigger mess. And we can tell you what’s going on in plain words. No scary talk. No pressure.
If you’ve seen any water marks at all, don’t wait until the busy season hits and schedules get tight.

Ever hear a “flap” sound on a windy night and think… “Was that my roof?” 😬

You’re not crazy. Wind can catch a loose shingle edge, a metal piece, or even a vent cap that’s starting to lift.

Here’s the hard part: from the ground, your roof can look totally normal. But up close, a small spot can be letting water in. And in Washington, water doesn’t need a big opening. It just needs time.

If you’ve had a windy week, here are 3 easy things you can check without climbing up:
Look for shingle pieces in the yard or driveway
Look at the roofline for anything that looks “wavy” or uneven
Check your gutters for fresh piles of needles or branches

If something feels off, it’s smart to get eyes on it before the busy season hits. Most of the time, catching it early keeps it simple.
