We noticed this house in our neighborhood a few years back and decided it could use a little help. With much enthusiasm we started down the path towards bringing it back to life. With an abundance of effort and plenty of help from others it’s now almost ready to hand over to a loving family who will write its next chapter. Attached is my best attempt to provide a glimpse of where it all started, some of what was involved, and even guesses about how it may look 👀 in the future.

Here in Paducah KY like many older towns and cities we have an abundance of homes that were built using historic brick. Surprisingly we also have some newer homes which incorporated historic salvage brick into the structure. If you suspect that your home has this sort of masonry component within it then it is critical that whoever services it understands period appropriate mortar systems or risk permanently damaging it. Have you ever seen a corner commode? Much of the charm of historic homes may be found in the practical use of every small space within them. We were recently called to a home where the original corner commode had been swapped out for a conventional toilet. This created a problem with side wall clearance. We sourced and installed this corner commode and restored the functionality / ease of use in this tiny powder room.

Hard to believe that this is the same hearth. The chimney that serves this hearth was separating away from the house due to differential settling and causing the floor to lift. Water was leaking into the side walls creating a mold issue. The client was resolute about saving the chimney and hearth so we provided services and guidance on how to make that happen inside and out. Budget is always a concern so we aided in the creation of a step by step plan that could be done over time and effectively meet their goals. Hats 🎩 off to this client for seeing the project through to completion
