May is National Electrical Safety Month! It couldn't have come at a better time, considering the severe drought Florida is experiencing. Dry conditions make electrical fires a much higher risk. Here are a few tips for checking your outdoor electrical systems.

Keep an eye out for warning signs, such as...
💡 flickering, dimming, or buzzing lights
⚡ breakers tripping frequently
🔥 warm outlets or switches
👀 cracked or discolored outlets
👃 fishy or chemical burning smell

Also consider these preventative measures...
🔎 Replace chipped plugs and exposed or frayed wires
🔌 Avoid overloading extension cords and only use them temporarily. They should not be used as a permanent solution!
🌩️ Make sure outlets or other receptacles are protected from the elements
🧓 Get check-ups on old wiring and panels for any needed maintenance or replacements

If you have fire risk concerns, call a licensed electrician -- they'll assess the situation and keep your electrical system safe!
