If you've got a slope in the yard you can't use, a retaining wall is what turns it into usable space.

We hear the same thing from homeowners all the time. The hillside is wasted. The bank keeps losing soil every winter. There's nowhere flat to put a patio, a garden, or a play area for the kids.

A retaining wall holds the slope back and gives you level ground where there wasn't any.

That part of the yard goes from something you mow around to something you actually use.

A tree that grew leaves in April but looks thin or off in June is telling you something.

We get these calls a lot this time of year. Sparse canopy. Dead branches in the upper third.

Bark sloughing off in patches.

A lean that wasn't there before.

Our team reads what's actually going on, including the things you can't see from the ground. Sometimes the tree can be saved with the right care.

Sometimes it needs to come down before the next storm makes the decision for you.

Your irrigation has been running for weeks now. Take ten minutes this week and watch it actually run.

We see the same problems over and over on June calls. Heads spraying the driveway. Drip lines popped loose at the emitter. A zone that's been failing quietly since April.

Dry patches that the timer can't fix because the coverage was never right to begin with.

A consultation tells you what's happening across the whole property, including the planting beds and gardens the lawn sprinklers ignore. We start there before recommending any changes.

Fire season starts now, and the part most homeowners overlook is the first five feet around the house.

That zone is where embers land. If they find bark mulch against the siding, dead leaves in a corner, or firewood stacked by the wall, that's where the fire starts.

We do defensible space work following Oregon State Fire Marshal zone guidance. The first visit usually focuses on Zone 0, the area right against the structure, because that's where the biggest risk reduction happens for the lowest cost.

We grind a lot of stumps in June. The ground is dry enough to work cleanly, and the area has time to settle in before fall.

If you've got a stump that's been sitting in the yard for a year or two, this is a good month to get it taken care of.

We bring the right equipment for the location, level the spot below grade, and leave the area ready for grass, a planting bed, or whatever you had in mind for that corner.

We get calls every June from people who cut their blackberry back in spring and are watching it come right back.

That's normal. Cutting the canes doesn't touch the root system, and June is when the plant puts on the most growth. A few weeks of warm weather and you're back where you started.

We follow OSU guidelines for root-level treatment, which is the part that actually breaks the cycle. We also schedule follow-up monitoring so new shoots get caught before they take hold again.

If you're tired of cutting the same patch every year, give us a call.

A tree limb hanging over the roof is fine until the wind picks up on a hot afternoon.

We get calls every June from homeowners who watched a branch come down on their gutter, their fence, or their car.

The limb was there for years, looked solid, never gave them a reason to think about it.

Then a dry east wind moved through.

Pruning takes care of this before it becomes the kind of problem you call about at 9 p.m. on a Saturday. We look at clearance, branch structure, and what's putting weight where it shouldn't be.

Walking your property line once a year catches a lot of problems while they're still small.

Fence damage, tree limbs crossing onto a neighbor's side, brush encroaching from uphill, drainage coming from somewhere it shouldn't be.

Send us a message and we'll come take a look at your property.

If your property sits near wildland, the zone closest to your house is the one that matters most during fire season. The first five feet around the foundation is where embers land and catch on whatever will burn: bark mulch, dry plants, stacked firewood, or a fence rail pushed up against the siding.

Swapping that zone to gravel, stone, or pavers and pulling flammable material back from the structure is one of the most effective things a property owner can do before fire season starts.

If you want a defensible space assessment on your property, reach out and we'll walk it with you.

A fresh layer of mulch does more for a yard than almost any other single thing you can do this time of year. It holds moisture in the soil through the hot months, keeps weeds from taking over the beds, and finishes the look of a property in a way that makes everything else around it look sharper.

The right depth is two to three inches, and it should be pulled back away from the base of trees and shrubs rather than piled up against them. Getting that part right is the difference between mulch that helps the plants and mulch that slowly rots the bark.

If you want your beds mulched before summer, reach out and we'll get you on the schedule.
