Last night, Architectural Nexus Principal Designer Jeff Tuft joined U.S. Representative Burgess Owens, Michael Cherry, Paul Damron, and Chase D. Olson for a panel discussion on Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) at Neumont University, moderated by Robert Axson.

The conversation explored how emerging aviation technologies could transform transportation, connectivity, and the communities we serve.

Jeff brought an important design perspective to the discussion: The flight is only one part of the experience.

During the Golden Age of commercial aviation, remarkable architecture helped capture the excitement, optimism, and possibilities of flight. Iconic places like the TWA Flight Center at JFK and Washington Dulles International Airport weren’t simply transportation facilities. They were designed to make the entire journey memorable.

Advanced Air Mobility presents a similar opportunity today.

As we envision a future of electric aircraft, vertiports, and increasingly connected communities, we have an opportunity to think beyond the technology and consider the complete human experience. How will people approach, enter, navigate, and interact with these new transportation environments? How can thoughtful design create places that are safe, accessible, welcoming, and inspiring?

"Before You Build It" was a huge success at our Salt Lake office. Thank you to our cohosts TrueInsight and Monterey Technology for their awesome displays which were immensely enjoyed by everyone! It was so great to have such innovation and enthusiasm within the walls of our office.

We're so grateful for everyone who attended. You have our biggest thanks for coming and making this event memorable for everyone. It was a blast to share in the modeling and simulation events with all of you!

Our team members had a wonderful time at the Library Association Conferences this past weekend.

At the California Library Association Conference, Peter McBride and Megan Repka, together with Mary Gazdek, City of Stockton Librarian, presented on the Ursula Meyer Library and Community Center. They reported on the effect public outreach strategies and insights had during the design and build of the project, and how that has ensured smooth operations since the grand opening.

Meanwhile in Idaho, Amy Watson led networking opportunities at our booth. She showcased her expertise in library design and shared practical insights, while exploring future opportunities with other attendees.

We're excited to be part of Utah Hard Tech Week! Our Salt Lake Office will host "Before You Build It: Modeling, Simulation & Human Performance Happy Hour" on October 27 from 4 - 6 P.M.

This event will explore how different forms of modeling and simulation can help organizations better understand system performance, the build environment, human performance and interaction, and immersive environments before committing to real-world designs. There will be demonstrations showcasing software and VR applications of these simulations.

We're excited to have Arch Nexus's own Amy Watson is representing us at the Idaho Library Association Conference.

Amy is happy to share insights from her years of successful library design at the conference. We invite all attendees to visit with her at our booth. We're excited to be represented by Peter McBride and Megan Repka at the California Library Association Conference. They will have a booth set up for all conference attendees to come meet with them and discuss how we can potentially work together.

Peter and Megan will also give a presentation during the Friday Session on how we recently demonstrated a focus on public interest design when creating the Ursula Meyer Library and Community Center. Their presentation will cover practical advice on public outreach strategies and design advice that library professionals can apply to any project of any scale. We encourage all attendees to listen to their presentation and leave with actionable takeaways

Arch Nexus does more than win hearts and contracts. We're excited to share that we placed 2nd in the recently concluded Salt Lake County Corporate Games, and we were also awarded the Heart and Soul Award!

Taking part in the games was a great opportunity for us to connect with friends in the AEC industry, as well as other industries. Thank you to the Salt Lake County Parks and Rec team for organizing these games.

It was fun for all our employees who participated a variety of games over the last few weeks. Big thank you to Steven Tanner and Brandon Layne for spearheading our participation and recruiting teammates for the games.

Brian Cassil, Director of Communications, who participated in bowling reflects on the games saying, "I look forward to these games every year. The friendly competition brings out best from my teammates as well as providing a great opportunity to meet new people."

On Saturday, September 19, Arch Nexus Sacramento had the pleasure of hosting Janet M. Harvey at our Living Building for a conversation centered on regenerative leadership and the role renewal plays in creating healthier, more resilient organizations. Janet is an author, speaker, and CEO of Invite Change where her work focuses on generative coaching, leadership, and human development. Her newest book, "Regenerative People: Why Renewal Is Key to Lasting Leadership," set to be released in January 2027, explores many of these ideas.

Our Sacramento office was a particularly fitting setting for the conversation because the building goes beyond sustainability and steps into operational regeneration. It produces more energy than it uses, supports a net-positive approach to water, and was created with the goal of giving back to its surrounding community more than it takes. That same mindset influences the way we approach our work at Arch Nexus: every project can do something, even if it’s small, to create a more positive impact.

We are grateful for the opportunity to have hosted Janet and a group of organizational coaches and to participate in the conversations about bringing regenerative thinking into the workplace. Regenerative buildings are ultimately about people, and the experience was a meaningful reminder that the same principles of renewal, resilience, and stewardship can shape the way we lead, work together, and design the places where people live and work.

The Huntsman Cancer Institute in Vineyard recently marked the start of vertical construction with a cornerstone celebration. Community Leaders, elected officials, donors, supports, and residents alike gathered to celebrate this significant milestone.

The theme for the event “The Rising Future of Hope, Discovery, and Healing in Utah County,” reflects the project’s purpose to create a place where patients can receive care, scientists can pursue discoveries, students can prepare for future careers, and especially where families can find hope closer to home.

The Huntsman Cancer Institute, located on the University of Utah’s campus, hosted more than 52,000 patients from Utah County and adjacent areas during the year 2025. The Vineyard location will serve to ease travel burdens from patients in central and southern Utah, and beyond.

Following the groundbreaking in April 2025, months of site preparation commenced. This included removing groundwater to enable excavation, and installing 830 deep foundation supports which will anchor the building. Foundation work is currently underway, and vertical construction can now begin. The building is expected to be fully enclosed by summer 2027, at which time interior work and system installation will move forward. The facility is expected to be completed by June 2028, and start receiving patients in September 2028.

Once completed, the 284,000sqft campus will expand Huntsman Cancer Institute’s ability to serve the intermountain region with comprehensive cancer care, research, education and more. All who attended the cornerstone celebration, were able to feel the honor and hope Huntsman brings to everyone who enter their doors.

Progress is being made on Fairview Terrace. This new, affordable Senior Living Community will provide sustainable housing for its future residents. The project delivers a meaningful cost-effective advantage as compared with market-rate senior housing. A Fairview Terrace one-bedroom unit is projected to be 27% below comparable market rate.

Construction began back in April, and the first of 76 units have been installed! We're very excited for the work that is moving forward, and the dedicated teams working to bring this dream and design to life.

We're proud to be part of Mutual Housing California's first factory-built housing project. We enthusiastically anticipate the sustainability, energy efficiency, and cost effectiveness these units will provide for future tenants.

Architectural Nexus was represented at the Setting Ceremony by David Abraham, Megan Repka, Miguel Cortes, and Sam Raabe. Speaking of the impact Fairview Terrace will have, David Abraham says, “Good design should make sustainability tangible in people’s daily lives. At Fairview Terrace, the all-electric, net-positive approach is intended to lower energy costs and strengthen resilience, while community-informed spaces create opportunities for connection, access and belonging. This project shows how climate-responsive design can support both the individual dignity of residents and the long-term health of the surrounding neighborhood.”
