We’ve never seen someone put an exhaust fan in their pantry… until now.

Our clients do a lot of cooking and love keeping fresh ingredients on hand, so they asked us to install an exhaust fan in their pantry to help with airflow and keep the space fresh.

It’s definitely not something we’ve done before, but we made it happen. And after seeing how useful it is, it’s something we’re going to start suggesting to future clients.

That’s one of the best parts about building a custom home. Sometimes the best ideas come from designing around how someone actually lives.

Buying a newly remodeled home? Don’t assume everything was done right just because it looks brand new.

This $8 million home in La Jolla was recently purchased after being flipped, and we found multiple issues that were missed before the sale. Now we’re going back in and correcting work that should have been done properly the first time.

If you’re buying a flipped or newly remodeled home, here’s what we recommend:

1. Get your standard home inspection.
2. Hire an experienced contractor or builder to do a second walkthrough.
3. Have them look beyond the finishes and check the actual quality of the construction.
4. If possible, bring them in before you close on the home.

A beautiful kitchen, new floors, and fresh paint don’t always tell you what’s happening underneath.

Especially when you’re investing millions into a home, spending a little more upfront to have the right person inspect the work can potentially save you from expensive repairs later.
