Say hello to Blair Bebgie! 👋
Blair is a senior designer and project manager at Studio Ovo. Before joining the team, she worked at WRNS Studio and Aidlin Darling Design on projects ranging from a Silicon Valley campus to nonprofit 826 Valencia’s Mission Bay Center. A former ballet dancer and musician, Blair brings an artist’s discipline to space-making, composing from concept down to the smallest detail.

She earned her M.Arch from Tulane University, studied in Rome, and helped build a home from the ground up with Tulane’s UrbanBuild program. Blair is especially interested in natural materials and collaborative practices that reduce the environmental impact of the built environment. Inspired by Carlo Scarpa’s poetic detail and Charlotte Perriand’s joyful rigor, she looks to site history and local craft to create timeless work. Outside the studio, she often walks in Golden Gate Park and hikes in West Marin.

Happy Lunar New Year!🧧
As we enter our fifth year, we’re feeling especially grateful for our work, our community, and our team. We thought it was the perfect moment to properly introduce ourselves, starting with the people behind the work!

Ying Ying is a designer and consultant at Studio Ovo, collaborating with the team since reconnecting with her longtime friend Caroline after their early days working in affordable housing. Raised in Malaysia and frequently moving homes, she was inspired to pursue architecture to create thoughtful places for family. After earning her degree from UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design, she finally fulfilled her dream of designing her family’s condo in Malaysia.

At Studio Ovo, Ying focuses on early concept and schematic design, sketching by hand to test ideas and grounding them in material honesty, site context, and history. Researching each client’s story guides her toward spaces that feel timeless rather than trendy. Outside the studio, she recharges by cooking and spending time with her standard poodle, Enzo; her dream project is a tiny Sea Ranch cabin with a bathhouse overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Studio Ovo is participating in today’s national general strike. As an immigrant-founded practice, this pause reflects a personal commitment to acting with care and intention, and to standing in solidarity with immigrant communities and people of color whose safety, dignity, and sense of home are being threatened in this moment.

Evaluating grout colors on-site for beautiful blue gray terrazzo tile from . Getting the grout right is key—we want the grout to blend with the stone rather than stand out. We’re checking how the colors look on wet and dry surfaces because when the stone is sealed, it will look more like the wet version.

A preview of the sculpted Carrara Marble tile in this primary bathroom for our Lakeshore project, just before the grout is applied. The eye-catching scalloped shapes required close collaboration with experienced installers to ensure precision. To achieve smooth transitions, we used flat tiles in the inner corners, positioned at the highest point of the concave tiles. For areas designated for plumbing fixtures, the installers meticulously ground down each tile for a level alignment, and similarly carefully planned the location of electrical outlets. We can't wait to share the final results once the project is complete!

This reception area for a venture capital office is wrapped in .official—a Nordic thermally modified wood with a beautifully welcoming warm tone. We love that Lunawood is so non-toxic that they made our kids honey swirls out of their wood! Treated using only heat and steam, it’s a highly durable, versatile, and stable material, and it doesn't require any further surface treatment, which makes it an ecological choice throughout its lifecycle. It also smells amazing! The custom walnut and blackened steel desk complements the wood’s clean lines, keeping the space simple and refined.

Happy (early) International Women's Day, one and all!! At Studio Ovo, International Women's Day is a sacred day and a paid company holiday, so we’re celebrating a day early this year. Here’s to the one day we truly get to celebrate ourselves — a gorgeous spring day, free from school closures and interruptions — a rare opportunity to give our busy minds a break and let our imaginations flourish.

Every year, we mark as a time to recharge, reconnect, and savor the gift of uninterrupted space. This year, calendars are cleared, spa days are booked, museum dates with friends are planned, and we’re ready to enjoy a day just for us.

Cheers to every woman designing spaces, leading teams, and making an impact! As an all-woman team, we are so grateful to collaborate with incredible women — clients, designers, architects, and creatives — who inspire us every day. We see you, we support you, and we are thankful to share this journey together.

On-site with , getting hands-on with the railing details for our Lakeshore Residence. These moments are where the design really takes shape—adjusting details, refining the craftsmanship, and making sure everything feels just right.

So much of what makes a project successful comes down to collaboration and clear communication. Our contractor understood our vision from day one and created full-scale mockups on site for us to review and refine the details. Seeing it come together like this is always one of the most satisfying parts of the process.

What Makes the Perfect Wall Perfect?

The "Perfect Wall" is a cornerstone of building science, ensuring durability and performance in any climate. Here’s how it’s applied to one of our current projects:

Slide 1: Wood siding is the outermost protective layer, combining aesthetics with durability.
Slide 2: A drainage mat and furring strips over the insulation create a ventilated cavity for moisture control.
Slide 3: Tan-colored Rockwool insulation on the exterior enhances thermal efficiency and prevents thermal bridging.
Slide 4: A cross-section reveals precise layering for moisture management and structural stability.
Slide 5: A diagram outlines the components, from insulation to waterproofing, showcasing their integration.

Curious how this approach can work for your next project? Let’s perfect your walls!
