This week’s partner feature puts the spotlight on Akroyd Design Group. JMC worked with Rob Akroyd on a multi-year project a few years back when he was operating Greylock Design Associates. We truly value our partnership with Rob and look forward to collaborating with him again in future.

Our team meets every quarter to review project updates, company goals, financials and key objectives for the remainder of the year. We were thrilled to be joined by John Abrams, Founder & President Emeritus of South Mountain Company, for this month’s team meeting at our offices in the Berkshires. John shared some of his company story and his next act after retirement in 2022. was started in 1973 and a half-century in, they have plenty to celebrate — meaningful work, a beautiful place to do it, and rich, reciprocal relationships with clients, trade partners and their community. A lot can grow from humble beginnings and JMC is completely aligned with this plan as our own company evolves into the future.

Completed in Fall 2025, this exceptional hilltop farmhouse offers spacious rooms with strategic window placement to take in the views of the Berkshire-Taconic range. The driveway winds through a mature grove of apple trees with mountains visible from every angle. The careful renovation and meticulous construction of this very special home offers large rooms with strategic window placement to capture all the views.

Roomful of Teeth is a two-time Grammy-winning vocal ensemble based in North Adams, MA. Combining classical training with diverse, global vocal traditions, the group was created to expand the expressive boundaries of the human voice. The song Courante is the third movement of Partita for 8 Voices, a Pulitzer Prize–winning vocal composition by Caroline Adelaide Shaw written for and performed by Roomful of Teeth. The piece reimagines a traditional Baroque dance using rapid hocketed breath sounds inspired by Inuit vocal traditions.

In October 2025, we captured some beautiful early fall foliage shots of this new modular home and garage refurbishment which was completed in August 2024.

Building science was integral to the design, fabrication and on-site completion of this home. The home is super-insulated and includes high performance heat pumps, an ERV, advanced Siga Majrex v***r barrier and energy-efficient triple-glazed tilt-turn windows. The property’s Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index score was 35, which indicates the home is 65% more energy-efficient than a standard home built to code. Although primary fabrication of the modules occurs in the factory, this house was largely finished on site. The unit required additional framing and coordination at connection points – where modules join, careful connection detailing was required to conceal seams and ensure continuity of structure, finishes, acoustics, waterproofing and air barriers.

This open-concept, high performance home highlights natural wood and stone features, maximizing light and beautiful views. We truly enjoyed working in partnership with BrightBuilt Home , Laura Schoenbaum Landscape Design + MountainHome Landscape on this project.
