The JMC team spent 14 months breathing new life into a historic barn, transforming a utilitarian agricultural building into a serene, refined family spa. This extensive adaptive reuse project delivers a multi-functional space featuring a private gym, a spa with a lounge area, a basement workshop and office and first-floor guest parking.
We are proud to announce this project has earned a prestigious National Chrysalis Award for Historic Renovation. By carefully preserving and restoring original architectural elements, the result is a perfect balance of historic character and sophisticated, contemporary interventions suited for modern living.
To modernize the structure while preserving its historic character, the scope of work covered:
• Structural reinforcement and new framing
• Integration of modern mechanical systems
• High-performance insulation and air sealing
• Interior finishes and custom millwork
• Aligning new structural elements with irregular, original framing
• Hiding modern utilities to protect the visual integrity of the barn
• Carefully integrated advanced insulation and air-sealing strategies
Through precise coordination and craftsmanship, the history of the barn remains fully visible. It was incredibly rewarding for our team to see this structure evolve into a calming retreat, and we were delighted to work with , and many other talented partners on this project -- plus 53 Plumbing + Heating, And Good Painting, Creative Custom Woodcraft, Gabriel Electric, Marzelli Stone, Summit Home Technologies, Thompson Roofing and Jon Cowan.
