The original, interlocking, hollow core concrete blocks for landscaping and erosion control, designed in 1979 and exclusively manufactured by licensed partners in South Africa and 🇨🇦 🇦🇺 🇬🇭 🇳🇪 🇦🇪 🇪🇬 🇱🇸 🇸🇿 🇬🇧 🇪🇸 🇮🇳 🇳🇦 🇲🇦 YOUR LIVING CONCRETE WALL

In 1979, Terraforce® pioneered a versatile range of hollow, reversible interlocking retaining wall blocks, designed to build environmentally friendly, pro

fessional retaining wall systems that:

- allow plants to be part of the system

- provide soil erosion control by preventing soil movement,

- protect against flooding by directing water flow away from buildings,

- add extra outdoor space in sloping or terraced properties,

- improve aesthetic appeal when established as a functional yet attractive garden backdrop.

- offer unique block shapes that allows plants to become part of your wall in many creative ways!

- can also be used to build stairways or patios, helping to increase accessibility to entrances and outdoor areas. ONE BLOCK DOES IT ALL

The blocks are simply stacked using a horizontal interlock, a design that allows for unrestricted wall angles and curves to suit any environment - unhampered by Lego block type nibs and slots that are common in other systems - to provide a cost-effective and versatile earth retaining system. Even though the blocks are lightweight for easy delivery and installation, they are sufficiently heavy in mass when filled with soil, gavel or concrete providing sufficient vertical interlock. Terraforce® professional retaining wall systems vary in use from light gravity domestic concrete retaining walls to industrial geogrid reinforced earth-retaining or heavy gravity, double skin retaining walls. COMMITTED TO PROTECTING THE PLANET

Most Terraforce® Licensed Manufacturers use recycled concrete and clay bricks in the manufacture of Terraforce® stackable retaining blocks. ADHERING TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS

Terraforce® stackable, no-mortar retaining wall blocks adhere to local and international standards, having undergone extensive laboratory testing in South Africa, Europe, Canada, the USA and Australia – based on SANS 207, BS 8006 and ASTM-D6916-18 – by professional accreditation agencies over the last four decades. Terraforce® is a member of the Concrete Manufacturers Association (CMA) and a Level Four BBBEE Contributor. Terraforce blocks are exclusively manufactured by our trusted licensed partners in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Western Australia, British Columbia, Canada and India.

Ten luxury homes. One challenge: steep, heavily contoured ground in Bishopscourt, Western Cape, ZA.

For the Exeter Estate development by KingsHill Group, The Keep and New Land Developments, raised building platforms were needed to carve out space for tennis courts, lap pools, steam rooms, w**e cellars and multi-car garages on each 650 to 800 m² erf.

The solution was Terraforce® L12 blocks in charcoal, round face out, stacked in three 2m terraces at 70-degree angles. The round face left room for topsoil, allowing ten indigenous ground creeper species to be planted along the walls by Alan Dawson Gardens.

Blocks were supplied by Terraforce® licensed manufacturer Klapmuts Concrete / Cape Retaining Systems A total of 30 000 L12 blocks were installed on site by Decorton Retaining Systems, their first project using the L12 in charcoal with a round face finish.

Sneak peek: Terracing a mountainside in eZulwini, Eswatini

High up on the mountainside above eZulwini, Eswatini, Terraforce® round face retaining walls are holding back some of the highest cut slopes the system has tackled to date. Built for the new International Convention Centre and five-star hotel and resort, the tiered walls reach up to 26m in height, with EFS Construction, a Terraforce® licensed manufacturer and recommended contractor, supplying and installing over 267 000 blocks across the site.

Seedling pockets built into the concrete infill mean the walls were never meant to stay bare. Years on, palms, agaves and flowering shrubs have taken hold across the tiers, with the scalloped block lines still visible beneath the growth, tying the structure back into the surrounding hillside.

🌿🧱𝗣𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻. We’re proud to have the Terraforce Terracrete permeable pavers forming part of the Club Med Tinley Manor development in KwaZulu-Natal.

This service road provides access to the resort’s back-of-house facilities and follows a sloped and curving route making Terracrete a great fit for the changing gradient and alignment of the track.

But it’s not just about creating a durable surface. The permeable design allows rainwater to filter naturally through the paving and back into the ground, helping to reduce surface water run-off and supporting a more sustainable approach to development.

The project is a great example of how the right concrete product can combine function, flexibility and environmental consideration.

TFSD Concrete Products is a licensed Terraforce Retaining Walls manufacturer, proudly supplying genuine Terraforce® products for projects across the Eastern Cape.

A big thank you to the team at R&B Civils for the installation and workmanship!

Terraforce® Standard round face blocks were used to build this retaining wall in Citrusdal, Western Cape. The scalloped face gives the wall texture and softens its look along the boundary, in keeping with the rocky terrain nearby. The blocks' earthy tone works well with the patio's timber furniture and potted aloes and dracaenas, so the wall fits naturally into the backyard rather than standing out.

The result is a retaining wall that also works as a landscaping feature — functional, low-maintenance, and well suited to the space.

Terraforce® 4x4 Step blocks were used to construct this staircase at The Regal Rose Spa in Durbanville, Western Cape. L12 blocks, flanking the stairs, form the retaining walls on either side, tying the entrance, planting beds, and pathway into a single cohesive design.

The blocks were supplied by Terraforce®'s licensed manufacturer, Klapmuts Concrete / Cape Retaining Systems.

Service Road, Club Med Tinley Manor, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Club Med Tinley Manor is the first Club Med resort in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, and sustainability was a key consideration throughout the development. This short service track, providing access to the resort's back-of-house services, follows a sloped and curving route, and was surfaced with Terraforce® Terracrete™ permeable pavers, allowing rainwater to filter naturally into the ground rather than run off, for an eco-friendly and flexible surfacing solution well suited to the track's changing gradient and alignment.

The blocks were supplied by TFSD Concrete Products, Terraforce®'s licensed manufacturer based in KuGompo, South Africa, with installation carried out by R&B Civils.

Building Roads That Bring Communities Together: Terracrete™ in Rural Eswatini

Elgin Rust and Karin Rust from the Terraforce® head office in Cape Town, South Africa, recently visited rural community roads in Ezulwini with Michael Toepfer, a Terraforce® licensed manufacturer and recommended contractor in Eswatini. The roads were paved with Terraforce®'s permeable paver Terracrete™, expertly installed by Michael and his competent team, and they show exactly why it's suited to steep, off-the-beaten-track access routes.

Before the blocks went down, the roads were graded into a trapezoidal shape for self-draining runoff, then finished with a 100mm G6 base layer. On very steep sections, whaler strips (diagonal strips of concrete-filled Terracrete™ blocks) were added for extra support, anchoring the paving where the gradient demanded it. Approximately 1.5km of road has so far been completed and successfully weathered traffic and storms over the past few years.

Once laid, the blocks provide a flexible lining that can accommodate some ground movement, and the large openings, covering 40% of the surface area, allow rainwater to drain straight through rather than run off. On site, you can already see grass and vegetation taking hold in the joints, helping root the paving into the subbase as the road settles.

For communities living on steep slopes and away from paved infrastructure, that combination of solid groundwork, permeability, and flexibility makes a lasting difference to everyday access, safer trips to school, easier deliveries, and homes that stay connected to the world beyond the hill.

Blocks manufactured and installed by Terraforce® licensed manufacturer, EFS Construction.
