This week in Liverpool we welcomed community members and the Minister of Housing, to Liverpool for a tour of our newest public housing development.

Delivered through a collaboration between DORA, Eastcut, the Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency, and the Liverpool community, this 8-unit project supports the province's broader effort to expand safe, affordable housing across Nova Scotia.

The visit included a walkthrough of the completed homes, showcasing what can be achieved through modular construction. Built with long-term performance in mind, these homes feature energy-efficient systems, durable assemblies, and accessible layouts designed for durability and comfort. Four of the eight units are fully accessible, and each home includes its own balcony, for more inclusive living.

By combining off-site volumetric construction with on-site progress in Liverpool, this project is proof of how delivery can be streamlined without compromising quality.

Thank you to MLA Kim Masland, Queens Regional Mayor Scott Christian, and Minster John White, and all of the teams and trades who helped bring this project to life.

A step forward in delivering safe affordable housing for more people across Nova Scotia. 🏘

A big morning for the team at DORA 🇨🇦

We were proud to welcome the Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, along with Halifax MP Shannon Miedema, to our Dartmouth office today.

A special thank you to Jackson and Lovepreet, both Apprentice Carpenters at DORA and newcomers to Canada, for sharing their experiences in the skilled trades and their work on our panelized five-storey, multi-unit affordable housing project for Tawaak Housing Association in Dartmouth.

Today’s announcement focused on three things we care deeply about: growing the skilled trades workforce, removing barriers that slow housing projects down, and supporting modern methods of construction. All of it adds up to quality homes getting built faster, with more Canadian workers, more Canadian materials, and modern methods that let us deliver at the scale our communities need.

Thank you to Minister Diab and MP Miedema for joining us today, and to the skilled tradespeople helping build stronger communities everyday.

We had the pleasure of attending this week’s HRM Job Fair and connecting with future talent in our community.

It’s always a great opportunity to share what a career in construction can look like and meet the people who make it all possible!

Strong teams start with great people. 👷🚧

Steel, concrete, wood. One building. One team.

We're proud to be building the New Dawn Enterprises Youth Centre in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and this project is unlike most you'll see.

Concrete tilt-up panels. Structural steel. Wood trusses. Three materials, one hybrid system, working together in a way that demands precision at every stage of the build.

This approximately 24,000 sq. ft facility brings together concrete tilt-up panels, structural steel, and wood trusses into a single hybrid system. A build that demands precision, planning, and a team aligned at every stage.

Sitting at the heart of Glace Bay, this facility will serve the community for generations.

New Dawn Enterprises has been an extraordinary partner. They came to us early long before a shovel hit the ground with a vision for what this space could mean for youth in Cape Breton. That's how the best buildings get built: with a client who trusts the process and a team committed to getting it right.

10 schools. 65 classrooms. One shared commitment to building better learning environments across Nova Scotia.

We're proud to have delivered 10 schools across both urban and rural communities, helping create accessible, high-quality learning spaces where they're needed most.
Seven of these projects were completed over the past two years, followed by three more during this past summer's construction window, each being delivered within approximately 4-months. Together that's 65 classrooms supporting students, teachers, and families across the province.

At Hammonds Plains Consolidated School, a six-classroom modular addition now serves students in grades three through six. Similar projects at Astral Drive Elementary School in Dartmouth, and Fairview Heights Elementary School in Halifax, helping bring modern learning environments closer to home.

By combining off-site manufacturing and on-site construction, this approach streamlines delivery while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, and long-term performance.

From early site development, through to final installation, these modern spaces reflect what's possible when efficiency, innovation, and community needs come together.

Proud to help build the spaces where the next generation will learn and grow. 🏫📚

The spaces we build shape the communities we live in. 🏠

Today, 8 families are settling into their new homes. Across the province DORA and Eastcut are delivering modular public housing to support those that call them home.

• Shelburne: 8 units are complete and families are now making them their own
• Liverpool: 8 units are nearly ready to welcome their first residents
• Lower Sackville: 20 units are underway, with modulars arriving from Eastcut this spring
• Glace Bay: Modules are set and installation is underway on 22 units – DORA’s first multi-storey fully modular build with accessible design and a ground floor community space. Modules are set and installation is underway.
• Kentville: Manufacturing begins in the coming weeks on 30 apartments, 10 fully accessible, designed with Passive Design Solutions for energy efficiency.

By combining Eastcut’s offsite manufacturing precision with DORA’s on-site expertise, these homes are arriving faster, are built to last, and serve communities for generations.

From planning to construction, our shared focus is quality, collaboration, and long term impact, ensuring every space contributes meaningfully to the communities they serve.

We work across concrete, steel, timber, and hybrid structures. Lately, one material keeps rising to the top of the conversation.

Mass timber.

More than just a material, mass timber is a high-performance system. Engineered wood products like cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glulam are designed for strength, precision, and efficiency, offering a smarter alternative to traditional construction methods like steel and concrete.

At DORA, our role begins where manufacturing ends. The result: reduced uncertainty, faster timelines, and a build that performs exactly as intended.

Why does it matter? Because mass timber brings together speed, sustainability, and design flexibility.

And the momentum is real.

Mass timber construction has gone from niche to mainstream faster than almost any other building method — with 10x more builds completed in Eastern North America in 2023 versus 2012. In Canada alone, over 660 mass timber projects have been completed, with demand continuing to grow across all sectors as appetite for low-carbon construction increases.
