High quality carpentry located in Peterborough and the surrounding area. My name is Iain Darrah and I am the owner of “Darrah Fine Carpentry”.

We specialize in custom built-ins, furniture and trim work; including crown moulding, baseboard, casing, wainscotting, wall paneling and feature walls. I have been working in the industry for over 20 years and have a wide range of experience. I met my amazing wife Becky in Peterborough in 2001 and after living in different areas of the province we decided to move back to Peterborough and make it our home. We have been living here with our twin girls Isla and Ruby and our goldendoodle Charlie since 2013. This was a fun project I made for my clients who needed to make some extra storage under the stairs in their cottage.

I originally came to install a countertop, then they asked me to do some additional work as well. When you give quality service, you get repeat customers.

I finally had the opportunity to do a project in my home town of Port Hope.
My client came to me with exactly what they wanted for a built-in hallway closet. It looks fairly unassuming from the outside, but once the doors and drawers are open, you'll see there is lots of storage space.
The doors and drawers are soft close. The interior is made with prefinished birch and the exterior was brush painted to match the look of this century home. I also replicated the existing original baseboard and ornate trim surrounding the opening.

Some custom floating shelves I made with gentle curves on the outside and inside corners. Made with solid poplar and sprayed with tinted polyurethane. My client had the vision and she was pleased with the result.

Wood fireplace surround, built and finished for a client's home. Custom corbels and wood mantle with applied trim detailing and rosettes to complement the stone facing. I worked with a great designer on this project Louise Mackenzie

My client replaced their old fridge that was quite tall. The new fridge was deeper, so we moved the fridge gables forward, reworked the crown moulding and came up with a creative way to fill in the space above with a new cabinet, doors and some decorative trim.

These media boxes for an outdoor entertainment area are made with a solid teak exterior and a teak plywood interior. I applied a brush finish with Epifanes matte varnish.

I refinished this live edge slab in the client's home. I applied black tinted epoxy to all cracks and crevices and inlayed 2 brass bowties. Lots of sanding, but I think it came out beautifully.

A very elegant, modern update to an existing stone fireplace surround with new cabinets, floating shelves and mantle using solid birch and birch plywood with a natural satin finish.

I love how the wood components blend into the stone.
