⚡ LATE FINISH IN CREDITON ⚡
What was meant to be a straightforward double oven replacement turned into 3 hours of unexpected electrical work, with us finally finishing at 7pm! 🔧
Unfortunately, once we started looking behind the appliances, it quickly became clear that this wasn't a job we could simply walk away from.
🚨 Here’s what we found:
❌ Multiple sockets and spurs left hanging loose behind appliances.
❌ A double oven plugged into a loose, hanging double socket.
❌ Lighting cable incorrectly connected into a 32A socket ring final circuit, with additional spurs supplying two double sockets for appliances.
❌ Live lighting cables left hanging out of the wall behind a freestanding fridge freezer.
These weren't just untidy installations — they presented genuine electrical safety concerns and needed putting right before we could finish the job.
✅ What we did to put things right:
🔹 Removed the unsafe and unnecessary wiring and sockets.
🔹 Safely blanked off the redundant double socket behind the oven.
🔹 Installed a single socket for the fridge freezer, supplied via a switched fused connection unit.
🔹 Hardwired the new double oven rather than connecting it via a plug and socket.
🔹 Removed the incorrectly installed lighting cable and redundant sockets, making use of the existing suitable socket outlets and ensuring the appliances were connected correctly via switched fused connection units.
By around 7pm, everything had been rectified and left in safe working order. ✅
💡 The takeaway? What looks like a simple appliance swap can sometimes uncover much bigger problems hidden behind the scenes. Another reminder of why it's so important to have electrical work carried out properly by a qualified electrician.
At J Coates Electrical, safety always comes first — even if it means a late finish!
