⚡ Fault finding: a broken ring final circuit

Today we were tracing a break in the live conductors on a ring final circuit.

In this video, I demonstrate one of my go-to fault-finding methods—a practical way to help narrow down where the break is, with the circuit safely isolated before testing.

A methodical approach makes all the difference. Watch to see how I work through it. 👀

⚡ AN EICR THAT DIDN’T QUITE GO TO PLAN! ⚡

Today, we attended a property to carry out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), but before we could even begin our inspection and testing, we discovered a significant safety concern! ⚠️

During our initial checks, we identified that the property’s TT earthing arrangement had been disconnected at some point, for reasons unknown.

This was a serious concern, as a correctly installed and functioning earthing arrangement is essential for electrical safety and protection against electric shock.

🔧 Before we could proceed with our EICR, we needed to address the issue and ensure the earthing arrangement was correctly reinstated and verified.

It’s a perfect example of why electrical inspections are so important. You never quite know what you’re going to uncover!

👀 Take a look at what we found and what was involved in putting it right!

At LJ Electrical, your safety is our priority.

⚡ JUST LOOK AT THIS KITCHEN RING CIRCUIT! 👀

We understand everyone wants to save money, but cutting corners with electrical work is never a good idea.

Poor connections and incorrect wiring can lead to overheating, damaged cables and potential fire risks.

Just because something works doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safe!

At LJ Electrical, we believe in doing the job properly, safely and to the highest standards. ✅

⚡ WHAT LOOKED LIKE A SIMPLE JOB TURNED INTO QUITE A CHALLENGE! 🧱🔨

Today’s job involved transforming a number of surface-mounted sockets into a much smarter, flush-fitted finish.

Sounds straightforward, right? Well, not quite! 👀

Due to the type of brickwork used in the construction of this property, chasing out the walls proved more challenging than we initially anticipated.

The new back boxes also needed to be securely bonded into position to ensure a solid, professional installation.

But as always, we got there in the end! 💪⚡

It’s jobs like these that show why experience matters. Not every property is built the same, and sometimes even the simplest-looking jobs require a little extra time, patience and expertise.

✅ Surface-mounted sockets converted to flush-fitted

✅ Careful chasing into challenging brickwork

✅ Back boxes securely installed

✅ A much cleaner, smarter finish
