Spent the day at a property in Wadebridge carrying out EICR remedial works. Both consumer units have been swapped out for new RCBO boards with built-in surge protection, meter tails upgraded, and a Building Control notification submitted on completion. On top of that - bathroom socket decommissioned (too close to the bath), extractor isolator relocated to a compliant position, a couple of expired smoke alarms replaced with new mains-powered units, a lighting circuit earth fault traced and sorted, and a bathroom fan heater disconnected due to an overload risk. Thorough visit - good to leave the property in a much safer condition than we found it. ⚡

Consumer unit replacement at a property in Bodmin. The existing board had several observations flagged on an EICR, so it was replaced with a FuseBox 15-way RCBO unit - each circuit gets its own protection, so a single fault won't knock everything else out. SPD built in too, guarding against surges from the grid.

Alongside the board change, we tracked down an earth fault on the sockets ring - R2 readings were disproportionately high, pointing to a loose earth connection. Re-terminated and retested, all resolved. New EICR issued, satisfactory throughout. ⚡

Back in Lostwithiel for the second phase of electrical works at this property 🔌

On the list - connecting a client-supplied induction hob to the existing 32a dedicated circuit using heat-resistant cabling, adding surface-mounted double sockets in the garage with trunking to keep the cabling tidy on the block walls, swapping a towel rail fused spur for a decorative switch fused connection unit to match the room's finish, sorting a repair to the garden festoon lighting with a weatherproof joint housing and rewiring back to the internal switch, and finishing up with a polished chrome single gang switch to tie everything in with the rest of the property.

💡 Under-cabinet LED lighting fitted in a kitchen in Liskeard. Two 838mm LED cabinet lights wired in beneath the wall units to get some proper task lighting onto the worktops. Makes a big difference when you're actually trying to cook.

Brilliant, thanks Emma - really glad we could make the whole process straightforward!

We recently visited Stephen in Hayle through our Positive Connections initiative, which arranges free electrical work for elderly and vulnerable residents. His four bathroom downlights had been deteriorating for a while, so Dan paid him a visit in Hayle and replaced the lot, fitting new recessed downlights with a polished chrome bezel finish, all completely free of charge.

Stephen got in touch after Dan's visit and said the visit had been "a delight and a revival of faith". That really does mean a lot to us.💙

If you know someone elderly or vulnerable who could do with some help with their electrics, please share this post. It might just make a difference to someone who needs it.

⚡ Consumer unit replacement in Mevagissey - the old board was housed in a wooden cabinet, which came out first before we fitted a FuseBox 15-way RCBO unit with an integrated SPD. Meter tails upgraded to 25mm double insulated cable at the same time, and the circuit cabling replaced with FP200 fire-rated from the board to the fused spur.

Second part of the job was a new 20A circuit for a water misting system - routed at ceiling height through the kitchen joists in trunking, with every pe*******on caulked for fire integrity. Terminates at a fused connection unit in the under-sink cupboard. EIC issued and Building Control notified on completion.

💡 Exterior light swap in St Austell - two PIR sensor fittings replaced with client-supplied units. Both positioned on the outside walls of a residential property, old fittings removed, new ones wired in and tested. Clean job, sensors triggering nicely.

Consumer unit replacement at a property in Looe. ⚡

The old board came out and we fitted a new 15-way RCBO unit with an integrated Surge Protection Device - each circuit now has its own individual protection, and the SPD takes care of any voltage spikes coming in from the grid. Meter tails were upgraded to 25mm double-insulated at the same time.

All circuits tested on completion and an Electrical Installation Certificate issued.

Lighting upgrade out in St Merryn this week 💡

Split the living room lighting into two independently dimmable circuits, which meant chasing the masonry wall to run an additional cable drop for the second switch. Fitted a two-gang Enkin dimmer at the existing switch position and wired up four customer-supplied pendants with G9 warm white dimmable lamps - re-siting each fitting to get the spacing and centring right relative to the room.

In the hallway, swapped out two halogen downlights for Collingwood H2 Lite warm white LEDs to match the ones already in there.
