Born to Birth Cornwall

Born to Birth Cornwall Antenatal, birth and postnatal support for all birthing people and their families.

Birth will always take its own path; going with the flow of that is always a great option.

But that still requires preparation.
Knowing what's ahead.
Understanding your options.
Getting the short & long term effects of each.

That'll help you make those in the moment decisions with full confidence and zero regrets.

And believe me, when it comes to looking back on your birth, that matters.

But if doing that prep work feels scary to you, DM me. Everything I do is tailored to you, goes at your pace and focuses on your priorities.

These three common birth plan statements are total red flags to my doula brain.

Not because they're bad.
They're all really valid goals!
The problem is that they're vague.
AND that they're almost a given.

Honestly, this worries me because it's illogical.

How can so many individual human beings, with individual needs and hopes and fears and physical quirks need and want the exact same things to feel safe and happy to give birth?

I refuse to believe it: these statements may seem right, and they may fit the bill for the 'positive birth' imagery we see everywhere, but unless you've done the deeper thinking behind them, these preferences will get you no where.

What you really need are statements and preferences that show your midwife what you as an individual need to feel supported:

- in your body
- in your mind
- in your environment

That level of detail requires thought, knowledge, insider information and the confidence to trust that you can make the right decisions for yourself and your baby.

Helping people to do that is what I do best.

"At other baby groups I've been to, the chat is surface level. Here nothing is off the table" (first time mum)

Chatter at The Nest comes in all forms.

Sometimes we talk birth, feeding, weaning & sleep.

Other days, we'll rant, put the world to rights & wonder what it is that cats are really thinking.

Occasionally we'll cry, question our life choices and laugh about the chaos that babies really do bring.

Any is fine.
All of it is fine.
It's what this space is here for.

As you chat, you find those me too moments that remind you that you're not alone. You find reassurance, solidarity, inspiration, friendship.

And all of a sudden, maternity leave becomes so much better, and you become so much stronger.

My doula-supported second birth made me a doula, but it wouldn't have happened without the chaos of baby number 1.

It was long.
It was painful and intense.
It was filled with moments of defeat and weakness.

And the real kicker?
I hadn't gone in totally blind.
I thought I had prepared for it. I thought I was ready.
I'd done two antenatal courses for god's sake!

And yet...

Knowing what I know now, I'd have told myself to prepare differently.
Not to do, but to explore.
Not to have a tick-list, but to be guided by my gut.
Not to do what everyone else does, but to do what I need.
Not to pretend, but to own it.

I didn't do that first-time, and it showed.

Her mistakes got me here, helping others so there's a silver lining there! And yet, I can't help but wonder what would have been avoided and saved, had I prepared for birth differently.

if you've got a tiny baby, we'd love to meet you The Family Space. Booking essential (see link in the original post for details)

The buzz of your chatter, your curious questions, the friendships that form: that’s what makes ā€˜The Nest’ magic.

When I first started ā€˜The Nest’, I worried that there wouldn’t be enough for you to do. I panicked about prompting your conversations and helping you to find common ground.

But over the years, here’s what I’ve learnt.

Being a new parent is common ground enough.
The fact that you’re here, means you want to talk.
You guys make your own magic.

Me? Well I make the introductions, set the vibe, make the coffee and the flapjacks and move around the mat giving the support, the signposts and the sensitive ear to hear your stories as you need them.

And then 90 minutes later, we all leave as better, happier and lighter people.
With babies who have played, slept, fed and socialised as humans were always meant to.

Mission complete.

Want to join us?

We welcome the grown-ups of babies from birth to just-about-crawling to our Thursday sessions (1pm) at the Family Space; if that’s you, we’d love to meet you both.

🌟PREPARING FOR YOUR POSITIVE BIRTH 🌟

Trust me: positive births start with strong preparation.
But that relies on you knowing where to start.

And that can be a real maze.
The world is filled with a mass of information about pregnancy and birth which can be confusing and overwhelming.

UNLESS you know your way around it, of course.
Which is why I run this session.

As a birth doula regularly supporting positive hospital and homebirths here in Cornwall, I know the difference between good and bad birth prep.

In our 45 minutes together, I'll guide you through five of the simplest but most powerful ways to prepare for the positive birth experience you deserve.

Covering your body, your brain, your birth partner (and a few other cheeky additions), I've chosen the five approaches that I've seen - time and time again - create strong, individual and positive birth experiences.

Believe me, it's not rocket science.
Its not even complicated.
But it is transformational.

Sound good? Then, what are you waiting for.
Spaces are limited so grab your free place now:

Ladies, antenatal this isn't all about you. Your birth partner will be your rock & they need to feel ready to.

Which is why they play a big role in our birth prep.
The discussions.
The theory.
The practical.
The 'I'm going to play devil's advocate here' moments.

Because let's be honest, if everything goes to plan, you'll be doing your thing like a trooper and they'll need to protect your space.

And if things aren't going to plan, they'll need to step up and protect your space, ground your emotions and help you take the next step forward - no matter how intense or hard the moment may be.

A village hall full of strangers is not the place to build that kind of confidence. Not for most people, but certainly not for most men.

But the privacy of your own home, away from judgement and expectation - that's a far better place to do the kind of groundwork that matters.

Which is why I only do 1:1 antenatal.
No groups.
No judgement.
Just birth prep.

Curious? DM me and we'll have a chat.
