Commercial EV charging is about a lot more than just installing a charger on a wall.

Here's what a full commercial installation really involves:

⚡ Grid connection & DNO engagement — assessing available site capacity is one of the first stages of any project. We manage DNO engagement directly, so businesses understand connection requirements, approvals and potential upgrade costs.

🔄 Load management — smart load management distributes available power across multiple charging points, avoiding overloading site supply while supporting operational charging priorities.

🔋 Battery energy storage systems (BESS) — battery storage can reduce dependency on the grid, flatten demand peaks and support high-power fleet charging.

☀️ Solar PV integration — solar PV can help offset the electricity costs associated with EV fleet charging, particularly for depot and warehouse sites, and in some cases can be included under the DCS.

Commercial installations are also subject to strict building codes and accessibility requirements, so getting the right team in from the start matters.

We can handle it all. Find out more 👉 https://poweredbyces.co.uk/services/commercial-ev-charging/?utm_source=social&utm_medium=owned&utm_campaign=comm-ev-charging

Doing a job that makes a difference means everything to us. 💚

At CES we're supporting and tailor-making solutions for businesses across the UK looking for ways to strengthen their operations and cut emissions. Electrifying fleets is a HUGE part of that.

One of our recent projects in Trench, Telford is the perfect example.

We recently delivered a 237kWp solar PV installation to power the new BYD UK showroom and maintenance facilities—supporting the Greenhous Group Limited’s ambition to electrify their fleet. 🔌

The ongoing partnership between CES and Ample Power Limited continues to grow 🤝 with the successful working relationship delivering complex energy solutions for clients. Ample Power boasts an experienced multi-disciplinary team which specialises in commercial construction, refurbishment and maintenance work. And we're proud our teams work in unison offering the highest of technical expertise. 💡

As the BYD facility continues to develop, CES will support the integration of innovative new charging technology, further details of which will be revealed at a later date. 👀

This approach ensures the facility remains at the forefront of electric vehicle infrastructure. 💪

By integrating CES’s renewable energy capabilities with BYD’s innovative electric vehicle line-up, the partnership demonstrates a commitment to sustainable electrified fleet solutions. The new system will power not only the showroom but also the dedicated BYD servicing and maintenance facilities, creating a comprehensive, sustainability-focused dealership that serves both retail and fleet customers across the region. ✅

The collaboration between CES, Ample Power Limited and the Greenhous Group Limited group represents a significant milestone in the region’s electric vehicle infrastructure development. 🤝

How much does commercial EV charging installation actually cost?

The honest answer is that it depends. Charger type, power output, site infrastructure, grid capacity and civil works all play a part.

Here's a breakdown of what costs can typically include:

🔌 Charger hardware
🔧 Cabling and groundworks
🅿️ Parking bay preparation
⚡ Grid upgrades
💻 Load management software
🔁 Ongoing maintenance

As a general rule, lower-power workplace chargers are more cost-effective, while rapid chargers and high-capacity commercial EV charging stations often require more substantial electrical infrastructure and DNO engagement.

Commercial EV charging is fast becoming a business-critical investment and businesses across the UK are moving now.

Here's why:

🟢 On-site charging increases property value and makes commercial sites more attractive

🟢 Depot operators are opening their installations to industry colleagues as 'en-route' charging stations, unlocking new revenue streams

🟢 The UK's ZEV mandate, rising fuel costs, ESG targets and growing demand from EV drivers are all accelerating adoption

🟢 For retail parks, shopping centres and leisure destinations, EV charging points attract drivers who stay longer and spend more

🟢 Pairing chargers with renewable energy sources like solar carports helps offset energy costs and strengthens sustainability credentials

Charging stations are also a visible commitment to reducing emissions — helping businesses hit their CSR targets and build their brand reputation.

And with a number of funding schemes available, there's never been a better time to invest.

The team at CES recently spent a few days down in Plymouth at the Adams MoreyDAF dealership in Plympton.

Our objective? To carry out essential maintenance on their SolarEdge Technologies Inc. PV system. With multiple optimiser failures identified, our engineers systematically checked and replaced faulty units in order to keep the system performing at its best⚡

For large dealerships investing in electric HGVs, reliable and efficient solar generation is more important than ever. EV charging infrastructure demands consistent clean energy supply and ongoing compliance.

Our work on site also included upgrading firefighter gateways for improved safety and compliance along with AC remedial works to the supplies to the solarinverters– just to make sure everything was in tip top condition, complying with regulations.✅

Using SolarEdge’s online monitoring platform, any issues with PV output are quickly flagged. This proactive approach lets us address faults remotely, but it is thorough site visits, comprehensive reports and diligent inspections that guarantee high standards and outstanding performance. Something we’re proud to be known for!

Keeping commercial solar systems in top shape is key to supporting the shift to eHGVs and sustainable transport. CES combines technical expertise with the latest monitoring tools, helping sites like AdamsMoreyDAF maintain the energy supply needed for reliable EV charging and business growth☀️🔧.
