⚡ EICR FAQs – Your Questions Answered! ⚡

Q: What is an EICR?
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) checks the safety and condition of your property's electrical system.

Q: How often do I need one?
🏡Homeowners: Every 10 years (or when buying/selling).
🏠Rental properties: At least every 5 years or at the start of a new tenancy.
🏢Commercial/Industrial properties: At least every 3 to 5 years, depending on the business activity.

Q: How long does it take? ⏳
Inspections take anything from 2 hours to all day, depending on the size of the property/premises.

Q: Will the power be turned off? 🔌
Some circuits will need to be switched off temporarily while testing is carried out.

Q: Why is an EICR important?
✅ Identifies potential electrical hazards
✅ Helps prevent fires and electric shocks
✅ Keeps your property compliant with current regulations

Does an EICR include repairs? 🪛
No — remedial work is normally charged separately.

Does it include PAT testing? ❌
No — PAT testing covers portable appliances.

Can I do an EICR myself?
No — it needs to be carried out by a qualified electrician 👷🏼‍♂️.

Day 4 in our Electrical Safety Series 👷🏼 🪛

Who needs an EICR?

🏡 Homeowners: generally every 🔟 years, or sooner if concerns arise.

🏠 Landlords: In England, an EICR is required for rental properties and must be renewed at least every 5️⃣ years.

🏢 Commercial properties: Frequency is dependant on risk, usage & the condition of the installation. An EICR is generally recommended at least every 5️⃣ years.

🏭Industrial properties: Industrial environments are classified as higher risk due to heavy machinery use, dust, moisture & potential mechanical damage to electrical installations, therefore it is recommended they be tested every 3️⃣ years.

Electrical safety check series day 3️⃣

EICR codes explained 👩‍🏫

If you receive an unsatisfactory EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) there will be codes to advise what needs rectifying.

🚨 C1: Dangerous - immediate action required
⚠️ C2: Potentially dangerous - urgent remedial work needed
💡 C3: Improvement recommended
🔍 FI: Further investigation required

An EICR is satisfactory only when there are NO C1 or C2 issues.

The four-day week has flown by, and we haven’t taken many photos to show what we’ve been up to—but it’s been a busy one 👇

• Completed a lighting install for a company in Birmingham
• Visited a long-standing customer to install outdoor lighting at their home 💡
• Capped off underground cabling and made it safe
• Dug trenches for ducting with Oli’s new toy 🚜
• Spent a morning networking with other like-minded Staffordshire businesses
• And if Oli hadn’t already had enough fun in his new digger… he ended the week swinging through the trees at Go Ape 🌳 🐒(he thought he had a day off—little did he know the children had other plans for the last day or half term 😆) swipe to see him in action ➡️
