Rascor Waterproofing UK & Ireland on site in the Azores, Portugal.
Work is underway in the beautiful Azores, Portugal, where Junior and his team are currently waterproofing the lower-ground precast concrete elements of this project.
São Miguel’s Atlantic setting brings particular considerations for below-ground waterproofing. Seasonal rainfall and the island’s varied volcanic geology make understanding how water moves through the surrounding ground an important part of the design process. Groundwater conditions can vary across the island, so the waterproofing approach must reflect the site’s specific conditions.
For precast construction, attention to detail is essential at the joints between concrete elements, wall-to-floor connections and service pe*******ons. Maintaining continuity across these interfaces helps prevent potential routes for water ingress. Wet weather can also affect preparation and installation, making careful sequencing and suitable application conditions important.
For the project, reliable water protection supports the long-term resilience of a building housing sensitive equipment and critical infrastructure. The work being carried out below ground now provides an important foundation for that protection.
A big thank you to Junior and the team for their hard work as this latest RASCOR project progresses.
