There was no magic here! Just a bit of luck that the vivid orange stain from leaking pot plants hadn't reached the wood and made it dark and rotted. It still required some finesse to peel back the layers of poly without touching the blonded floor. Final touch up removed the imperfections and made the floor like new. The customer was thrilled as the stain was only discovered after the house had been sold and the only other option was sanding back the whole floor! Would you be happy with this repair? .........It's all about expectations. When I work directly with a customer I make sure I describe realistically the expected result from a repair. Rarely are they invisible but usually well disguised.

My customer here was the builder who had done the damage, but the home owner expected a brand new floor even though the rest was in a bad state with dog scratches and widespread delamination.

What do you think of the repair? The description from the home owner was "This is the first thing you see when you walk in our house and this repair is not OK"

Some of it comes down to lighting and how close you hold the camera.

Please, please, please don't do this!! It seems like an easy fix. Got a few scratches on the wood floor? Why not sand them off and apply a new coating. There is no way back from this - freshly sanded boards look nothing like the sun aged ones and you cannot spot repair polyurethane. CALL ME FIRST!
