We had a great turnout at the Blenheim Hotel site last Friday! Smart Alliances Ltd facilitated an Engineering New Zealand on-site event at The Alfred Hotel project. Our team is involved with the site observations, providing local engineering and construction professionals with a direct look at the structural developments.
This project relies on close coordination between the design engineers at Kirk Roberts, the main contractor Brosnan Construction, and our team handling ongoing site observations.

On the Drawing Board | Marlborough Sounds Bach

A bach should be about the human experience of the place, not the house itself. Capturing the views, sun, sounds, outdoor living and privacy — while sitting quietly within the landscape rather than competing with it.

This south-west-facing Marlborough Sounds site presented a few challenges, with a tight building envelope, boundary setbacks and recession planes constraining the footprint

Working closely with George Guthrie Construction and the clients, our architecture, engineering and planning teams brought together a solution that worked within these constraints while preserving the native bush that screens the site and enhances its privacy.

The design adopts a compact footprint that follows the contours of the land, opening towards the south-west views and making the most of available sunlight.

The result is a simple, understated bach with broad protective eaves and durable aluminium cladding. Practical, enduring and respectful of its setting.

Good bach design isn't about making a statement. It's about making the most of being there.
