Boutte Tree Family-owned since 2003, Boutte Tree provides expert and eco-conscious tree care throughout Atlanta. We put people first and trees a very close second.

Our ISA-certified arborists help your trees and the city’s canopy thrive. At Boutte Tree our mission is to care for Atlanta’s trees using the safest procedures and the very best arboricultural practices. People are our concern and they make Atlanta what it is. Trees are important because in order for the city to reach its potential it must not only provide cultural and social amenities; it must provide the refuge of natural beauty. No other organism comes close to trees in offering this in the context of a city. In an urban environment, so far from the humbling power of nature, only a tree can put the ambition of man’s civilization into perspective. Trees are large and alive and without much ado they can remind us that we are not larger than life, but simply a part of life’s intricate web. At Boutte Tree we believe in the power of trees to transform the urban environment and make it aesthetically pleasing. Trees are able to this because they can provide more foliage, shade, and natural beauty per square foot of real estate than any other plant or landscape can do. In a city like Atlanta land is a valuable commodity and should never be wasted. When compared to landscaped areas, trees are more magnificent, offer shade, require less maintenance, and are permanent fixtures that become part of the fabric of our city. Landscaped areas are small, decorative, expensive to maintain, and being decorations do not become part of a city but merely adorn it. (This is not true of all landscaped areas, but it is usually true of landscaped portions of the streetscape)

Therefore, our mission is clear: Offer the very best tree care at reasonable rates with an eye towards the future – a canopied future!

Boutte Tree has grown into a company that handles crane removals, airport clearances, and right-of-way work across metro Atlanta. Through all of it, the business has stayed family-owned and operated, and that shapes how the work gets done every day.

Family ownership keeps the people making decisions close to the work. Safety training, equipment choices, and how a crew treats a customer's yard aren't set by a distant corporate office; they come from owners who know the field and know these neighborhoods. It also means a 30-plus person field crew works to the same standards on a backyard oak in Brookhaven as on a commercial site in Norcross.

We like to say we're your neighbors and your arborists, and we mean it. Many customers have trusted us with their trees for years, and a family business can protect that kind of relationship in a way a larger outfit often can't.

Do you make a point of hiring family-owned businesses for work around your home, and what makes the difference for you?

Good morning, Atlanta! 🌞 After a dry late summer, many pines around our metro area are experiencing stress as we transition into fall. This makes them prime targets for native bark beetles. 🍂

As you enjoy the changing leaves, take a moment to check your pines for signs of trouble. Look for pitch tubes those small popcorn-sized blobs of resin where the tree attempts to fend off beetles. You might also notice fine reddish boring dust in bark crevices or around the base. If you see a crown fading from green to yellow to red, it's time to pay attention; once a crown turns fully red, beetles have likely moved on to other trees.

Healthy pines can often handle small attacks on their own, but our ISA Certified Arborists can assess the situation. They consider the number of attack sites, how well the crown is holding up, and proximity to other pines and structures. Sometimes a single infested pine needs to come down to protect others; sometimes it just needs monitoring.

🌳 Did you know? Take a look at the base of the trees in your yard! A healthy tree should have a visible root flare where the trunk meets the soil. If it goes straight into the ground like a telephone pole, that flare might be buried.

Buried root flares are common in Metro Atlanta due to deep planting, added soil during landscaping, or mulch piled against the trunk. This can lead to wet bark and girdling roots that squeeze off water and nutrients.

Look out for signs like thinning canopies or early fall color. Our ISA Certified Arborists can help uncover the flare and check for girdling roots with air excavation, keeping your tree healthy without damage.

Have you ever looked closely at where your tree trunks meet the ground?

Some trees simply can't be taken down the traditional way. When a large oak or pine leans over a roof, sits in a fenced backyard with no equipment access, or stands over a pool or detached garage, there's often no safe place to let limbs fall.

That's where our crane-assisted removal service comes in. A climber secures each section of the tree, the crane lifts it clear of the house, and our ground crew lowers it to an open area for processing. Nothing drops onto the roof, the lawn takes far less wear, and a tree that might take days to rig piece by piece can often come down in a single, controlled workday.

Crane work demands careful planning: load charts, setup location, overhead lines, and soil conditions all get evaluated before the crane arrives. Our team trains specifically for crane operations and works with the Crane Safety Institute, because the precision that protects your home also protects our crew.

Is there a big tree on your property that you've always wondered how anyone would safely remove?

Good tree care doesn't happen in isolation. Boutte Tree has long been active in the Georgia Arborist Association, and that involvement shapes how our crews work on your property every day.

Through the GAA, our team stays connected to arborists across the state who are dealing with the same pests, storms, and urban growing conditions we see in Metro Atlanta. Those relationships mean new research, safety lessons, and better techniques reach our crews quickly, rather than years after they become standard practice.

It's also a way of giving back to a profession we care about. Supporting training, sharing what we've learned from crane work, ESA projects, and storm response, and helping raise the bar for tree care across Georgia all serve the same goal: a canopied future for the communities we live in.

When you hire a professional for work around your home, how much does it matter to you that they're involved in their industry beyond their own business?

All summer, a full canopy of leaves does a great job of hiding problems. Over the next several weeks, as oaks, maples, and tulip poplars across Metro Atlanta start dropping their leaves, a lot of homeowners are going to look up and notice bare, brittle limbs they never saw in July.

Dead wood is easiest to spot right at the start of leaf drop, while healthy branches still hold some color and dead ones stand out as gray, bark-peeling, or twig-free. Limbs over roofs, driveways, decks, and play areas deserve the closest look, since dead branches get lighter and more brittle through the winter and are the first to come down in a gusty front or an ice event.

Our ISA Certified Arborists use this window to separate normal self-pruning of small interior twigs from larger dead limbs that point to root stress, decay, or disease. Removing dead wood now is simple, targeted work, and it gives us a clear look at the rest of the tree's structure while we're up there.

As the leaves come down on your street this month, is there a limb over your house or driveway you've already started watching?

When fall rain moves through Metro Atlanta, mushrooms start popping up everywhere, and most of the ones in your lawn or mulch bed are harmless. The ones worth paying attention to grow directly from the root flare, the trunk, or a large surface root.

Shelf-like conks, clusters of honey-colored caps, or bright orange brackets at the base of a tree are often the visible fruiting body of a fungus that has been decaying roots or heartwood for years. Because that decay happens below ground or inside the trunk, the canopy can look perfectly healthy while the tree's anchorage is quietly weakening.

If you spot one, take a photo before mowers or rain knock it off, since the shape and color help an arborist identify the species and how aggressive it is. From there, our ISA Certified Arborists can use a root collar inspection or decay testing to find out how much sound wood remains. Have you ever noticed mushrooms coming back at the base of the same tree year after year?

Some of the most demanding tree work in Metro Atlanta happens where you'd least expect it: along detention ponds, earthen dams, wetlands, and stream buffers. These environmentally sensitive areas come with rules about what can be cut, how equipment reaches the site, and how soil is protected from erosion.

Boutte Tree's ESA work is built for those conditions. Our crews plan access routes that avoid soft banks, use low-impact methods that keep sediment out of the water, and follow state and local buffer requirements so property managers, HOAs, and municipalities aren't left dealing with violations after the job is done. Woody growth on dam embankments is a frequent focus, since roots can weaken the structure over time.

It's the kind of work that rarely makes for flashy photos, but it protects water quality and infrastructure across the region. Does your community or property include a retention pond or creek that hasn't had a tree assessment in a while?
