We love roofing in our back yard.

Many know I grew up in Columbia Heights then New Brighton (class of 1999), today was fun as it was across a buddy of my house from middle school. Haven’t seen him since 8th grade.

Anyways, job didn’t go as planned, but our guys didn’t miss a beat. House needed new plywood to meet code and warranty , skylight is a custom size and we had to reframe the opening.

And our project manager upgraded his client to the top of the line Certainteed Northgate class 4 shingles to help cut his premiums down by 30%.

There is lots of homes left that haven’t been inspected to see if you qualify for a full replacement by your insurance company.

We have had 98% approval from this storm and are 100% in Columbia Heights, New Brighton and Saint Anthony.

A few weeks ago, I shared the story of a family that lost most of their belongings in a house fire. To make matters worse, a hailstorm rolled through that same day and severely damaged their roof.

The inside of the home is being rebuilt, but because the roof was already at the end of its life, insurance wasn't able to cover the full replacement.

Today, we were able to change that.

Thanks to the generosity of some great people and businesses, we installed a brand-new roof, and it turned out great.

A huge thank you to Wyatt Pilkenton and SRS Building Products for donating the IKO Royal Estate shingles. This is a premium designer shingle, and their generosity made this project possible. SRS has been an outstanding partner for years, and we're grateful for everything they do for us and for our customers.

Thank you to Alex Hernandez and ABL Dumpsters for donating the dump trailer and haul-away. Alex has been a great partner for the last seven years, and he's always willing to help whenever we need him.

Thank you to Melissa Walicke with Farmers Insurance. Melissa has trusted us with her clients for many years and was the one who connected us with this homeowner. She's also insured our business and our family's homes for more than 10 years, and we truly appreciate her trust and friendship.

Finally, thank you to our crew—Bisael, Juston, Jaun, and the rest of the team. They take pride in every roof they install, and today was no different. They did an outstanding job and helped make a difficult situation a little easier for this family.

Projects like this are a good reminder of what can happen when people are willing to help one another. We're thankful we had the opportunity to be part of it, and we're grateful to everyone who stepped up to make it happen.

Attention Columbia Heights, Fridley, New Brighton, and Roseville homeowners:

Today I want to share a great ending to a very sad story.

We have a fantastic insurance agent that we’ve partnered with for many years. Back in April, she called me about one of her clients who had just experienced a devastating house fire. It was a tremendous loss for the family.

To make matters worse, the same day a hailstorm hit Faribault with 2” hail, causing significant damage throughout the area.

Fortunately, the homeowner had good insurance coverage, and the insurance company is taking care of the interior repairs. However, there was a problem with the roof.

The roof was at or beyond its life expectancy, and as many homeowners know, insurance companies are becoming less willing to pay for aging roofs. This particular policy also carried a large deductible and provided only actual cash value coverage.

In the end, the homeowner received only a few hundred dollars toward the roof replacement and had no additional funds available to cover the remaining cost.

When we heard the situation, it felt like the perfect opportunity to give back to our community.

My first call was to Wyatt at SRS Building Products. I explained the situation and asked if they would be willing to donate shingles for the project.

This morning, I received an incredible phone call. They have a supply of special-order, high-end shingles available and are donating them for this roof.

I just got off the phone with the insurance agent, and she’s calling her client to let them know the news:

We’re replacing their roof—for free.

Please stay tuned as we take on this project over the next few weeks. We can’t wait to help this family move one step closer to rebuilding after such a difficult loss.

This is what community is all about.

It’s not as good looking as your new roof will be, but Its close.
