Furnace season is here — and so is the annual mystery beep no one can quite locate at 2am.

As heating systems kick back on, carbon monoxide risk quietly rises right along with it. The tricky part: CO has no smell, no color, and gives no warning of its own. A working detector is the only real way you'd know something's wrong.

We came out for one outlet that stopped working. What we found was a lot bigger. When our tech opened the panel to troubleshoot, they discovered melted components — the kind of wear that happens quietly.
