Sometimes God's answer shows up while you're still asking, “What are we going to do?”

Before SCCR existed, Ryan and Ashley helped take the second roofing company they worked for from around $30,000 a month in revenue to $300,000 a month in just three months.

But along the way, they realized the way that company did business didn't align with how they believed homeowners or people should be treated.

So they walked away.

No backup plan. No roofing company. No idea what came next.

On September 5, 2023, they were sitting at Carolina Ale House eating wings, drinking a beer, and Ashley was crying asking:

“What the hell are we going to do now?” 😂

And then the phone rang.

David, who was with Beacon at the time, called.

“Hey, I heard you guys started a roofing company.”

They hadn't. 😂

But he told them Beacon was willing to give this nonexistent roofing company a $15,000 credit line.

Within another hour or so, Jody with SRS called.

“I heard you guys started a roofing company.”

Apparently everyone knew something they didn't. 😂

SRS offered another $15,000 credit line.

Then the next day, Jake with TAMKO offered to co-brand with them, an opportunity brand-new companies typically don't get.

All within about 24 hours.

They hadn't applied for any of it. They hadn't gone looking for it. They hadn't even decided to start a roofing company.

They were sitting at a restaurant wondering what they were supposed to do next while God was already putting the pieces together.

Looking back, what felt like everything falling apart was actually God redirecting them.

Before they could figure out which door to knock on next, He started opening them. One after another.

SCCR may have fallen into their laps, but three years later, it's pretty clear it didn't get there by accident.

God's timing was better than theirs. His plan was bigger than theirs.

And apparently, He knew they were starting a roofing company before they did. 😂❤️

Three years of SCCR this Saturday.

Long before SCCR, there was this roof. 😂

This was the very first roof Ashley ever climbed, and Ryan was the one who took her up there.

At the time, they were both working for the first roofing company that brought them into this industry. Neither one of them had any idea that a few years later they'd be running a roofing company of their own.

Actually, they both eventually left that company, went separate directions, and got out of roofing altogether.

Apparently roofing wasn't quite done with either of them yet. 😂

They each ended up getting pulled back into the industry, eventually landing at the same company again and helping that company grow.

And all along the way, they were learning.

What worked. What didn't. How homeowners should be treated. How a team should be treated. What kind of leadership mattered. And what they would do differently if they ever had the chance.

They just didn't know yet that chance was coming.

We had absolutely no idea what we were doing. 😂

This was one of our very first company photos, back when Southern Custom Construction & Roofing was brand new and we were still figuring out what exactly we had gotten ourselves into.

The funny part is, starting a roofing company was never the plan.

There was no five-year business plan. No dream of owning a roofing company someday. No big moment where Ryan and I looked at each other and said, “You know what we should do?”

It quite literally fell into our laps.

And on September 5, 2023, we found ourselves sitting at Carolina Ale House figuring out what we were going to do with it.

At the time, it felt a little crazy and a whole lot unexpected.

Three years later, it doesn't feel nearly as accidental.

There have been too many doors opened at exactly the right time, too many people placed in our path, and too many moments where God made a way when we couldn't see one ourselves.

So with our third anniversary coming up this Saturday, we're going back to the beginning this week. The good, the hard, the lessons, the people, and the story behind the company you see today.

Starting SCCR may not have been our plan.

But looking back, we're pretty sure it was His. ❤️

A reminder for today that we don't have to have everything figured out.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Sometimes the best thing we can do is stop trying to control every next step and trust the One who already knows where we're going.

Praying you find a little peace, a little rest, and a whole lot to be grateful for today. 🙏

No samples. No driving around the neighborhood looking at roofs. No saying, “I need to see it on my house first.”

Something here is definitely not like the others. 👀🚩

At first glance, the shingles on this roof don't look all that concerning.

But look a little closer at that chimney.

The wood around it is showing significant deterioration, and areas like this are exactly why we don't just look at the shingles during a roof inspection. Chimneys, flashing, penetrations, ventilation and the surrounding materials all matter when we're looking at how well your roofing system is protecting your home.

So... did you spot the red flag before we told you? 😂👇

The shingles are the part you see. What’s underneath them matters just as much. 👀

When we replace a roof, we're not just tearing off old shingles and putting pretty new ones back on.

Once that roof is opened up, we're looking at the decking underneath, addressing anything that needs attention, installing the components of the roofing system, and making sure everything is installed the way it's supposed to be.

Because the finished product might be what everyone notices...

But a lot of the work that determines how that roof performs is eventually completely covered up.

And that's why the details matter. 🏠

There are probably 42 opinions being exchanged in this photo. 😂

One thing about running a business together: there is A LOT of talking things through.

Jobs. Customers. Sales. Production. Problems. Ideas. What we're doing next. What we definitely should NOT do next. 😂

Ryan and Ashley don't always approach things the same way, and that's actually one of the things that makes SCCR work.

They see things from different angles, ask different questions, and catch things the other one might not.

A lot of the best decisions we've made at SCCR have come from conversations just like this one. Sitting down, talking it through, looking at it from both sides, and figuring out what makes the most sense for our homeowners, our team, and the company.

Building a business isn't always polished.

“But my roof isn't leaking...” 👀

We hear this ALL the time.

And while no leaks is definitely a good thing, it doesn't necessarily mean there's nothing going on up there.

Wind damage, creased or loose shingles, flashing issues, and other problems can exist long before you ever see a water spot on your ceiling.

We'd much rather find the problem before the rain finds it for you. 😂🌧️

You see Ashley on here all the time, but what does our COO actually do? 😂

As co-founder and COO of SCC, Ashley runs the operations side of the business.

Production. Scheduling. Permits. Materials. Customer communication. Everything happening in the office. And about 47 other things that somehow become her problem throughout the day. 😂

While Ryan leads the sales side of SCC, Ashley takes over everything that happens after the sale and makes sure what we promised our homeowners is what we actually deliver.

She's usually somewhere between a spreadsheet, a phone call, a job schedule, checking on an install, and putting out a fire that didn't exist five minutes ago.

Basically, if you ever wonder how we get from “We need a new roof” to “Look at that pretty new roof!”... there's a whole lot happening in between.

That's Ashley's world. 😂🏠
