You never know WHO you might meet when you stay at The Gray! 🦉We’ve affectionately named this barred owl “Gus” in tribute to Fay Jones’ beloved wife. If you’re staying at Gray this fall, listen closely—you just might hear Gus calling through the trees!

What an honor to see The Gray featured in The Wall Street Journal celebrating the enduring legacy of E. Fay Jones.

Our home’s story is one of stewardship. Ken and Liz Allen recognized the significance of the Brothers House and stepped in to preserve it, later entrusting it to architect David McKee knowing he would give it the thoughtful restoration it deserved.

Today, we feel incredibly fortunate to be part of its next chapter — caring for it, sharing it with our guests, and helping more people experience the magic of Fay Jones architecture firsthand.

A special home, with a very special history. 🤍

David McKee, the “Fay Jones Whisperer” is featured on this week’s USModernist podcast episode! David details his experience apprenticing E. Fay Jones, his chapels, and even The Gray by Fay Jones.

E. Fay Jones is a name most architects know but the public does not.  A student of Frank Lloyd Wright, Jones blurred the line between indoors and outdoors with careful use of wood, stone, and glass.  It’s like these buildings just emerge from the woods. Today, we’ve got three people de...

The Richard and Alma Brothers Residence Restoration project in Fayetteville, Arkansas, won a Merit Award in Historic Preservation during the Fay Jones School’s 2024 Alumni Design Awards competition. The alumnus on the design team is David W. McKee (B.Arch. ’82), with McKee Properties LLC in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

This 1956 Fay Jones-designed mid-century modern home was recently restored to preserve and refurbish the defining elements of Jones’ organic architecture. Initially uninhabitable, the residence required complete system replacements and a new roof after 66 years. Extensive site work was undertaken to restore and protect this historic home.

“This is an extremely well-executed example of residential historic preservation with a faithful response to Fay Jones’ work,” the jury said.

A big round of applause for David McKee and McKee Properties LLC! We are proud to honor your impact!
