One of my favorite parts of designing is asking: What is this plant doing besides looking beautiful?

Across the seasons, I like to include plants that can provide herbs or food for us, nectar and pollen for pollinators, seeds and berries for wildlife, or shelter and habitat. All while contributing to the overall design.

A food forest doesn’t have to be a giant woodland, or look wild and messy. 🌳🍓

Permaculture can sound complicated, but really it’s about working with nature instead of constantly fighting it.

I love these compact Monarda !
- they stay short and compact, bloom heavily, and I haven't seen any powdery mildew on them since I've had them in my garden for three years.
