What might otherwise be an unused wall becomes an opportunity to add both function and character and above all, express our client’s identity. This homeowner is as sophisticated as they are well-travelled, and we love opportunities to showcase that when we get it.

Integrated storage keeps the home organized, while materials, proportions, art, and lighting transform an otherwise overlooked area into an important part of the architecture.

Natural light from the sky light can help shape how a space feels throughout the day, while carefully placed architectural lighting brings dimension and warmth after the sun goes down.

Throwback to our project in Laguna Beach. This picture was taken while Arlene and Katie were on a site visit a few months ago, but it has completely transformed since then.

Sometimes during construction, it can be hard to visualize the final product which is why we love to use renderings for the final design.

Progress photos are coming soon so stay tuned!

This custom home also includes an ADU in the back of the lot. And the best part is that it’s just down the street from the ocean.

Every residence we design begins with a clear architectural vision, shaped by a deep understanding of our clients.

We lead a collaborative process, welcoming their ideas and evolving needs while stewarding the design with intention.

This Newport Beach residence offers a glimpse into that journey. Each refinement strengthens the architectural vision while bringing the home into closer alignment with the lives and aspirations of its owners.

What if your bathroom was designed to help you exhale?

For us, that means thinking beyond the obvious. Where does the morning light land? Where should a window be placed to bring in natural light without sacrificing privacy?

Architecture creates spaces for wellness, relaxation, and restoration. It’s more than just bringing in natural elements through design, but also thinking of the structure of the home, how it flows together for functionality.

When a home functions and serves the needs of those living there, that is a space that creates a calming ambiance. The result is a bathroom that feels considered, comfortable, and far removed from the pace of the rest of the day.

What if privacy didn’t mean giving up the view?

At Capistrano Beach, we designed three residences around a series of private outdoor spaces including courtyards, terraces, and pools that bring the outdoors into everyday living.

Large steel-and-glass openings connect the interiors to these spaces, while carefully placed walls and volumes create a sense of intimacy and retreat.

Open when you want it.
Private when you need it.
Always connected to the coast.

What if your morning coffee came with the sound of the ocean?

Not only can you see the coast from these homes, but you can hear the waves too.

Working with Revere Real Estate, we designed three custom residences coming soon to Capistrano Beach, each positioned to capture the coast and create a seamless connection between architecture and landscape.

Architect: amk STUDIO
Developer: Revere Real Estate
Interior Designer: Leah A Designs

We were onsite with Revere Real Estate in Capistrano Beach this past week and you can actually hear the waves from these homes!

Three five-bedroom residences, set along a private drive, each with a pool and cabana overlooking the Pacific. With the Dana Point Harbor just minutes away, the location offers extraordinary coastal living.

Why do architects visit job sites? Aside from ensuring continuity, the design process never ends as they say, and we love capitalizing on any view opportunities through rooftops and trees. This was definitely one of those projects!

Architectural relevance: Part 3
Lessons from Japan: Designing for Everyone

Most of the world doesn’t integrate accessibility into society as well as it should.

In Japan, the “luxury” was the graceful integration of accessibility throughout much of the city…setting a high bar for the rest of the world to achieve.

These Tenji Blocks are incorporated into flooring and hardscape in many public places in Japan, from sidewalks to train stations, museums, hotels, and more. As we continue to explore what luxury means in Japan, this one caught our eye for the attention to detail and graceful integration of accessibility for the sight impaired.

Designing for the needs of our clients is integral in our work with custom homes. Our homes are seamlessly tailored to the needs and lifestyles of each individual client.

Part 2: Beauty of Contrasts

One design principle appeared again and again throughout Japan: nature complimenting architecture.

Natural landscapes framed against dark architectural materials. Soft planting paired with crisp modern lines. Interior spaces flowing seamlessly into gardens.

Rather than competing with architecture, the greenery elevated it.

Architectural Relevance: Luxury in Japan
Part 1: Attention to Detail

In Japan, we found extraordinary attention to detail everywhere we looked. Hotel rooms made every square foot feel intentional. Construction sites, sidewalks, and even utility covers reflected a level of care that's easy to overlook but impossible to ignore.

One of our favorite discoveries was a high-rise that transformed exposed glass standoff hardware into a playful detail, adding an unexpected sense of whimsy to an otherwise structural element.

It's a reminder that exceptional architecture is about elevating every detail.
