Our company is the product of a partnership formed between two high school students, John Cooper and Chris Tacia, in 1996. The two began a business splitting firewood and selling it by the truckload to local folks around Sanford, NC. Proceeds from selling firewood became the seed money for a small development in western Harnett County,

Our first construction projects took place in 2003. They wer

e mostly small residential renovations like bathroom and kitchen remodels, along with the construction of a single home that we built speculatively. Over the years many opportunities have presented themselves and we have steadily grown our client and revenue base. This year we will complete projects throughout the southeast United States ranging from large-scale manufacturing, office buildings, government and education facilities, restaurant & retail spaces, apartment complexes and water and wastewater treatment plant upgrades.

Site work is officially underway at McCrady Training Center in Eastover, South Carolina!

Cooper Tacia has kicked off construction on a new Automated Multi-Purpose Machine Gun Range for the South Carolina National Guard. The 4,000-square-foot facility will include six firing lanes, nineteen stationary targets, a range control tower, operations and storage space, an ammo breakdown facility, a mess hall, bleachers, and a dedicated classroom building. A comprehensive training complex.

Thank you to Ward and Smith, P.A. for including our Founder and CEO, John Cooper, as a panelist at their 2026 Construction Conference at the StateView Hotel on June 4. Joining him on the panel was Ty Edmondson, CEO of T.A. Loving Company, with the conversation moderated by Hank Harris of Ward and Smith Business Consulting.

The conference was designed to offer practical and legal guidance for contractors, developers, and construction professionals, with discussions covering industry challenges, risk management, AI, employee recruitment, and leadership in construction.

While John shared insight on several topics, one of his key messages focused on the people and leaders who work at Cooper Tacia. As he told the audience, “You can't build a company without the people.” That belief is reflected in the way we continue to invest in our employees through profit sharing, recognition, education, training, and leadership development. John was quick to acknowledge that Cooper Tacia would not be where it is today without the people who show up every day and help move the company forward.

Construction doesn't happen without great design partnerships. AIA Atlanta's Designed for Next summit is exactly the kind of space where those relationships are built and strengthened.

The one-day gathering brought AEC leaders together around the issues actually shaping the industry — from how firms are approaching AI to how they're planning for growth and managing risk. Sessions built around real decisions, led by practitioners who've made them.

Cooper Tacia was honored to be a sponsor at the UNC Health Championship this year. Beyond the competition, this event is doing something meaningful: raising funds for North Carolina's first freestanding Children's Hospital, set to open in Apex. For families who currently have to travel out of state to access specialized pediatric care, this facility will be a long-overdue resource.

Progress is coming together at Jackson Davis Elementary School for Henrico County Public Schools. Brick and siding are going up on the exterior while interior work continues to take shape inside. It’s great to be building alongside the team at Moseley Inc. on a project that will serve this community for years to come.

What a great weekend at the GAPPA 2026 Meeting and Tradeshow in Jekyll Island.

It was great to be part of this year's gathering alongside facilities professionals from across Georgia, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve as a Hospitality Sponsor.
