A water heater should give you 10 to 15 years. Around here, a lot of them don't. There's a geological reason for that. 🪨

Berks County sits on limestone and dolomite bedrock. Water moving through it picks up calcium and magnesium along the way — that's what "hard water" is.

Here's what that does inside a water heater:

Every time the water gets heated, some of those minerals come out of solution and settle to the bottom of the tank as sediment, or bake onto the heating element (pictured below). Sediment insulates the bottom of the tank, so the burner runs longer to heat the same water. That rumbling or popping sound an old heater makes is water boiling underneath the sediment layer.

More run time, more wear, shorter life. Flushing helps. Treating the water helps more.

Cultured marble shower, done and done. 👏

For anyone wondering what cultured marble actually is — it's a cast polymer that's molded into seamless, one-piece panels and bases. No grout lines, no tile seams for mildew to hide in. It resists stains, water, and everyday wear, and it wipes clean with a non-abrasive cleaner. It's tougher than quarried marble and more durable than porcelain, but it still gives you that real marble look with the veining and high-gloss finish.

Going on vacation this summer? Shut off your water before you go. 💧

A small leak while you're home is a nuisance. The same leak while you're away for a week can mean warped floors and ruined drywall.

🌷Spring Heads Up — Before You Turn On That Outdoor Hose Bib...🚰

If it froze this winter, the pipe behind it may have cracked — and you won't find out until there's water inside your walls.

Quick check: have someone stand inside near where that water line comes through (basement, crawlspace) while you slowly turn it on. Let it run for a minute or two. If they hear or see water where they shouldn't — shut it off and call us before it turns into a much bigger problem.
