THE VOTES ARE IN! Apparently, Jay and I have officially been out designed by the dog!

TEAM SHELBY — 15
TEAM JAY — 14
TEAM DAWN — 5

Shelby pulled off the win by ONE vote! Her room blended warm Modern Farmhouse + Transitional style with natural wood, stone, soft neutrals, olive accents, cozy textures, black windows, built-ins and, of course, her very own wildlife-watching window seat.

Team Jay came in a very close second with his Modern Masculine Luxury look- dark finishes, cognac leather, walnut wood, dramatic black details, warm lighting, a whiskey bar and a very large TV. 😂

And to my five best friends who voted for Team Dawn… thank you for supporting my Organic Modern world of creamy neutrals, soft olive, natural textures, greenery and warm, airy organized comfort.
And please… don’t start calling Shelby for your design needs.

So, what happens when Organic Modern Dawn, Moody Luxury Jay and apparently award-winning designer Shelby, the dog all have to live in the SAME house? The compromise reveal is coming Tuesday…

TEAM DAWN, TEAM JAY or TEAM SHELBY?

Three family members. Three completely different ideas of cozy.
We’ve been having a little fun imagining what would happen if each member of our family had complete control over the living room, with no veto power from the other two!

TEAM DAWN — Soft Organic Modern
Light, relaxing and layered with creamy colors, soft clay and olive accents, natural textures, plenty of plants—and, of course, lots of pillows and a cozy blanket.

TEAM JAY — Modern Montana Ranch
Dark, moody and masculine with concrete, blackened finishes, rich walnut, cognac leather, a beautifully illuminated whiskey bar and one enormous television. Pillows kept to an absolute minimum.

TEAM SHELBY — Michigan Modern Farmhouse
Warm oak, creamy fieldstone, durable fabrics and a comfortable window seat sized just for her—complete with a bone, toy storage, water bowl, squirrel feeder and Dog TV playing deer and squirrels in the woods.

It’s all in good fun, but it illustrates something we truly love about design: there isn’t just one way to create a beautiful room. The best spaces reflect the personalities and pets, who actually live there.

Not every renovation needs to erase what came before. Sometimes the smartest design is making the old and new feel intentional together.

This 1980s client's home has the familiar orangish-brown oak cabinetry, doors and trim throughout. Because it isn’t the clients’ forever home, the goal is a thoughtful master-bath facelift that adds function and value without replacing every piece of woodwork.

This is where I’m happiest, getting creative and helping clients develop spaces that are both functional and beautiful!

The plan includes a white-oak vanity, creamy quartz countertops, custom mirrors stained to coordinate with the existing trim and LVP flooring that bridges the lighter new cabinetry with the home’s original oak.

A soft ocean-inspired green-blue tile will bring calm and freshness to the vanity wall and shower, while warm wood and sandy neutrals keep the room sophisticated and welcoming.

It’s been a seriously hot and steamy week of framing, but Jay and the crew are pushing right through! 🥵

We’re currently working on a 900 sq. ft. addition for an incredibly sweet family, two hardworking teacher parents, and their five school-aged girls! We're building them a larger kitchen, a walk-in pantry, a new guest bath, and the ultimate parents' retreat: a Master Suite with a walk-in closet and a private bath.

Every parent of five girls deserves a peaceful oasis to get away to, and we're so excited to bring this vision to life for them.
