This one means a lot to us.

A Vashon family came to us after their off-island HVAC installation failed in the middle of winter. Our team responded quickly, diagnosed the problem, and walked them through their options so they could make the right call for their home.
From there, we installed a new system, replaced old ductwork, and swapped out fiberglass insulation for a cleaner, more effective solution in both the crawl space and attic. The result? Better air quality, lower heating and cooling costs, and a home that's comfortable year-round.

"The team at Vashon Heating and Cooling did a fantastic job installing a new HVAC unit at our home on Vashon. They were fast to respond to our initial emergency service call when our previous unit (which we purchased and had installed by another company off-island) failed in the middle of winter. They quickly diagnosed the problem and provided us with a few options to help us move forward with the right solution.

No matter who we worked with (i.e. the owner, scheduler, technician(s), etc.), every team member was professional, courteous, friendly and highly knowledgeable about the new system that we purchased and had installed. They were quick to get us on the schedule and showed up and completed the work on time and within budget. The team was prompt in communicating any small changes to the schedule and were able to schedule post-installation inspections soon after the new system was in place.

We also had old ductwork and insulation issues at our home (both lower level crawl space and our attic), and the team at Vashon Heating & Cooling were able to remove the old insulation and install new (non-fiberglass) insulation that is much cleaner and more full-proof than before, which has already helped us reduce our heating and cooling costs. The team did an excellent job removing the old insulation and installing the new ductwork and insulation. They left our home cleaner than when they found it and were proactive in communicating what was happening each day of the removal and installation process and what work was going to happen the next day.

Why your filter looks gray on Vashon

If you pulled your air filter this spring and it came out looking like the inside of a wood stove, you are not alone. Marine air carries fine particulates that load up filters faster here than almost anywhere on the mainland.

A good rule for island homes: check your filter every 30 days, swap it every 60 to 90. If you have pets or you run the system hard during a windstorm, lean toward 60.

Story from last week that stuck with us.

We showed up for a routine tune-up and found a filter so packed with dust it had basically become a solid wall. The homeowner had no idea. System was working twice as hard as it needed to for probably a year.

Swapped it out in 5 minutes. Owner said the house felt different that same afternoon.

That's the thing about maintenance. It's invisible when it's working. And the problems build so gradually you stop noticing them.

We're not saying this to scare anyone. Just a reminder that the small stuff really does matter.
