Today, dhk is part of 10N, a collective created by Egis. We are a design-led studio incorporating architecture, urban and interior design.

Every project starts with a clear idea of what the building should be. The challenge is carrying that vision into something that can be built without losing clarity along the way. At this year's Big 5 Construct South Africa conference in Johannesburg, dhk Senior Associate Nathaniel Wakefield will explore early-stage technical coordination and collaboration. In his presentation titled “From sketch to site - the architecture of technical implementation”, Nathaniel will delve into project delivery and how what gets built is shaped as much by technical decisions as it is by the original design.

Nathaniel has over 30 years’ experience in architectural practice with a strong technical focus on construction delivery, documentation and site administration. He has built a successful career grounded in practical expertise, technical rigour and hands-on project delivery on projects in the Middle East, Western and Southern Africa.

Join his session on the first day of the conference which brings together the full spectrum of the construction value chain under one roof. Also attending will be dhk's Data Systems Manager Lizel Rust. Together, they look forward to sharing their knowledge and connecting with colleagues who are advancing South Africa's built environment.

Join Martin Lardner-Burke at the Graduate School of Architecture's Practice Lecture Series on Tuesday, 26 May. Martin is a Principal at dhk and Vice President of the Gauteng Institute for Architecture (GIfA).

Martin’s lecture is entitled “The Architecture of Practice”. It’ll focus on who we are as a studio, how we approach our work, how we've remained relevant as a large practice and how, for nearly three decades, we've stayed true to our design-led ethos with designs that respect their social, functional and environmental context.

Hosted by the University of Johannesburg's Graduate School of Architecture, the 2026 Practice Lecture Series invites architectural and spatial practitioners to reflect on how they are transforming their practice ground, through recombination, collaboration, refusal or making anew.

We're delighted to announce that dhk and dhki have been appointed by the President Hotel in Cape Town.

The site has been a place of retreat since 1766, when it was known as Society House. Over time, the building has evolved alongside Cape Town itself. We're honoured to be selected to add our design flair to one of the city's oldest hotels.

Our appointment reflects the strength of a truly multidisciplinary studio. The integration of architecture, interior design and brand identity thinking enabled us to present a cohesive and distinctive vision. We look forward to honouring the legacy of The President Hotel, and embedding our hospitality design ethos which anchors guests in place.

Meet dhk Candidate Architects Georgina Chappel and Joshua Riddle-Du Plessis who joined our team in January this year. They both recently graduated with a Master of Architecture from the (UCT), and in December 2025 they were named UCT regional winners in the 39th Student Architecture Awards for their Master's thesis projects.

Joshua was awarded second place for his project entitled “Future farming: architectural strategies for inclusive food systems in the urban informal economy”, while Georgina took third place for “Firescapes,” a project exploring the design of a wildfire-oriented fire station in Tokai.
