When the GPO's on the wrong side of the sauna, you don't move the sauna, you move the power. ⚑

This week the team wrapped up the full electrical fit-out for a poolside alfresco in Nightcliff, cedar-lined infrared sauna, daybeds under a new insulated patio roof, and every circuit run to suit the finished space, not the other way around.

The brief: the client's sauna (220–240V, 3050W rated) was already sitting exactly where they wanted it, but the nearest GPO was on the opposite post. Instead of shifting a fully assembled unit, we ran a new dedicated power point to match, sauna stayed put, power landed exactly where it needed to.

Same visit, we fitted a Haneco Proxima G2 24W outdoor LED security spotlight under the eave, 360Β° adjustable, 160Β° motion detection, IP54 and IK10 rated for Darwin's wet season, plus wired in the fan control point for the whole alfresco. Roof cavity wiring, insulation, sauna power, security lighting, fan control, one coordinated fit-out, done properly the first time.

Got a job where the electrics need to work around the design, not the other way around? That's exactly what we plan for before the first cable goes in.

Flickering lights and an oven that won't heat up, for one Lyons tenant, it was more than just annoying. It made the whole home feel unreliable, and the power bill kept climbing with no explanation.

The property manager called us in to get to the bottom of it, and once we started looking, the scope grew fast. Our team ended up replacing 14 downlights to LED, 3 fan speed controllers, the oven thermostat, and 2 LED fluoro battens, plus sorting out the oven light and thermostat that had the tenant convinced the whole appliance was faulty.

At TRIKI Electrical, that's the thing about electrical faults, what looks like "just a flickering light" can actually be a symptom of ageing components right across a property. A proper fault-find means checking everything connected, not just replacing the one part someone complained about.

By the end of the job, every light was working properly, the fan controls were responsive, and the tenant had one less thing to worry about.

πŸ’¬ Ever had a "small" electrical issue turn out to be a lot bigger once someone actually looked into it?

They told us it was "just a quick look" at the switchboard. πŸ‘€

That's the message our team got before heading to a home in Millner this week. Nothing major, they said, just a check on an old board. Open the panel, and there it was: an ageing board with hand-labelled circuits, the works. The kind of setup that's been quietly running that home for years.

Our team replaced it with a modern circuit-breaker switchboard. We also quoted a couple of ceiling fan upgrades while we were on site.

An old board with hand-scrawled labels is a dead giveaway that it's overdue for a look. Got one of those at home?

A wall came down. The power point had to move first.

On a recent commercial fit-out in Millner, a plaster privacy wall, with a double power point built into it, was scheduled for demolition. The catch: that power point still needed to work, and it needed to end up on the structure wall, not capped off and forgotten in the rubble.

Before the wall came down, we confirmed the exact spot for the relocated point, checked ladder access, and scheduled our visit for the same window as the demolition, so there was no second trip and no gap in power for the business.

On site: a new conduit run from ceiling to skirting, a double power point properly terminated on the structure wall, and a tidy-up of the cabling at the site's switchboard while we were there. The wall came down on schedule. The power never went down at all.

Happy Picnic Day, Darwin!πŸ§Ίβ˜€οΈ

Today the Triki Electrical crew is doing the same thing (minus the train). Tools are down, vans are parked, and the team's out enjoying the long weekend right alongside every other Territorian. Turns out even the people who spend their week untangling switchboards need a break from being the ones with all the answers.

Our emergency line's still on though, some circuits just don't believe in public holidays.

So tell us, cheese board on the grass, snags on the barbie, or heading out to where it all started at Adelaide River?

Enjoy the long weekend, Top End, we'll see you back on site tomorrow.

Bathroom Rewire Done Right, Down to the Fan Spec

Full bathroom rewire, done properly, right down to the fan spec.⚑

When a Gray NT bathroom and toilet needed a complete electrical fit-out, our team supplied and installed two ceiling-mounted LED downlights, a double GPO, light switching, and a Ventair EDGE DC 150 wall fan, a remote-controlled, oscillating DC unit with a 24/7 continuous mould-reduction mode built specifically for humid climates like ours. In the adjoining toilet, we fitted a combined LED downlight and exhaust fan unit to keep the space lit and properly ventilated in one fitting.

This is exactly the spec we recommend for Darwin bathrooms: a DC motor fan draws a fraction of the power of a standard AC fan while running continuously, which matters when you're trying to stop mould before it starts rather than after. Every circuit on this job runs back through a fully labelled switchboard with RCBO protection on each individual circuit, stove, hot water, A/C, power, and lighting all separated and protected.

If your bathroom fan is just an on/off switch with no continuous mode, it's working against Darwin's humidity, not with it.

What's on your bathroom reno wishlist, better lighting, better ventilation, or both?

⚑ Five Electrical Fixes In One Visit, No Callback Needed

Most homes build up a "we've been meaning to get that looked at" list. This Darwin home had five items on theirs, and we cleared the whole thing in one visit.

Here's what the job involved:
πŸ”Ή Added a new light fitting on the patio
πŸ”Ή Replaced two tired wall sconces with updated fittings, a small change that completely lifts a room
πŸ”Ή Installed two bar-style light fittings onto existing outlets in the bedrooms, swapping harsh single-bulb glare for an even warm wash of light
πŸ”Ή Replaced an old fluoro tube in the carport with a sensor light, so it switches on the moment you pull in
πŸ”Ή Fixed an antenna reception issue that was blocking SBS and NITV
πŸ”Ή Checked the power supply to the shed, where the client believed power was connected but it wasn't working

Five separate problems, one afternoon, zero follow-up visits. That's the difference between a quick patch job and doing it properly the first time.

Got a list like this building up at your place? Drop a comment or send us a message, let's get it sorted.

Every sparky needs a circuit breaker… this is his. βš‘πŸ˜†

The boss has swapped switchboards for the shooting range, electrical faults for clay targets, and β€œWhere’s the fault?” for β€œPull!” πŸŽ―πŸ˜‚

Different kind of precision. Same competitive streak.

A few days off the tools, a bit of fresh air, and he’ll be back keeping Darwin powered fully recharged and ready to go. ⚑
