This one’s a full redesign for a much-loved family home in Hertfordshire.

Our clients wanted a garden that felt effortless to use and just as enjoyable to spend time in as the house itself.
Space to cook and entertain, a plunge pool to enjoy year-round, a covered pergola, and plenty of open lawn for the kids.

It also needed a new driveway, boundaries, and planting to pull everything together with the architecture and create a space that’s impressive to look out onto from the house.

At just over 800 square metres, the concept balances structure with softness. Porcelain terraces, hardwood decking, a generous outdoor kitchen and dining space with overhead cover from the elements, and planting that stays interesting through the seasons.

The current cost for the full landscape build is around £315,000 plus VAT (£378,000 inc VAT). That includes everything from site preparation, groundworks, drainage and waste removal through to all labour, materials and installation, covering every element required to bring the design to life.

Two elements not yet included are lighting and irrigation, which will be developed during the next design phase, with an estimated additional cost of £25,000 to £32,000 for both.

A classic contemporary garden designed for real family life, showing just how much can be achieved when every detail is carefully planned from the start and adding lasting value to both the way a home feels and how it’s lived in 🌿

Around £230,000 for this complete project in Chichester Harbour.

The scheme covered roughly 700m² across the front garden and driveway, courtyard and rear garden, including the full design, landscaping, garden studio and pergolas.

It is easy to look at a few finished photos and only see the paving, planting and furniture. But there is a lot behind the scenes too. Irrigation, lighting, drainage, groundworks and all the construction detail that makes the garden last for many years to come.

We broke ground last week on this new design and build project in Hampshire.

The brief was for a garden that suits the way this family live. Somewhere to cook, entertain and relax, with room for a pool and sauna, while keeping enough open lawn for the boys to play sport and use the cricket net.

The design brings it all together with a pool, timber deck and sunloungers, a bioclimatic pergola over the outdoor kitchen and dining area, a firepit lounge and sauna with outdoor shower.

Existing fruit trees, the pond, bee hives and growing area are all being retained, so it still feels rooted in the garden that was already there.

The work has only just started, but this is going to be a good one to follow.

Aldingbourne completed design and build, part five.

Around the deck platform is a relaxed seating area with the outdoor fire, softened by the peach trees.

The rear boundary wall was reconstructed and then clad in larch to tie back to the barn, storage areas and decking. It is that repeating material language that makes the whole garden feel connected.

The hardwood decking is already starting to silver naturally. You can oil and treat it to hold its original colour, but this is what we prefer. It picks up the same grey tones as the York stone, sandstone setts and boulders, giving everything a more timeless feel.

In time, the rest of the timber will weather in to match 🌿

Aldingbourne completed design and build, part four.

One question we get asked whenever a garden has just been planted is why there are gaps in the beds.

The plants are deliberately spaced for their eventual size, rather than crammed in for instant impact. Give them time to establish and they will knit together properly, without needing to be constantly cut back or removed a few years down the line.

The beds have irrigation to keep the soil moist through the summer, and ornamental mulch will be topped up as the planting settles in to cover the pipework and finish everything off.

A newly planted garden is only the beginning. The best part is watching it mature🌿

A contemporary garden designed as a series of beautifully connected outdoor spaces—each created for relaxation, entertaining and year-round enjoyment.

From the expansive lawn and elegant stepping-stone pathways to the timber pergola, built-in seating and outdoor fireplace, every element has been carefully considered to create a natural sense of flow. Reflective water features introduce movement and tranquillity, while layered planting in soft greens, blues and purples brings texture, colour and seasonal interest.

A secluded courtyard pool provides a peaceful retreat beside the house, completing a garden that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.
