Today is International overdose awareness day. We will be spending the day down in the city square with other organisations from across Dundee, honouring every life lost to overdose especially the women we’ve supported 💜

At Dundee Women’s Hub, we know addiction is often a response to trauma, in particularly gender-based violence. Women don’t only lose their lives at the hands of an abuser they also die from the knock on consequences of that abuse including addiction, isolation, and systemic neglect.

We must continue to raise awareness on overdose because lives are being lost to a crisis that is preventable. Addiction is a public health issue, not a moral failing and it requires compassionate responses. We must work to help tackle stigma, create better resources, and ensure people who use drugs are treated with dignity, care, and receive the support they deserve.

Dundee Women’s Hub exists to create safety, empowerment, and real options for women navigating these hard circumstances 💜

Every August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day brings a global community together to take action on overdose. Hold an event, spread the message, and take action.

This year the theme for IOAD is- 25 Years On. Still Needed.

For 25 years, International Overdose Awareness Day has brought people together to remember those we’ve lost and to take action to save lives. The truth is, we shouldn’t still need this day. But we do.

Overdose continues to affect every community, yet it can be prevented. We know how to reduce risk and keep people safe. By speaking openly, learning from one another, and treating each other with care and respect, we build a world where fewer lives are lost. Because while this day is still needed, it doesn’t have to be forever.💜

We will be standing alongside other organisations across Dundee for International Overdose Awareness Day

📅31st August
🕐10:00am – 3:00pm
📍City Square

The theme for this year’s overdose awareness day is “25 years, Still Needed”.
This day is about more than awareness. It’s about remembrance, compassion, and unity. Last year, Dundee lost 48 people to drug-related deaths. This year, we are already at over 23 lives lost. These are not just number, they are people, with families, friends, and stories. Each loss leaves a lasting impact on loved ones and on our communities💜

Together, we have an opportunity to come together in the heart of the city to show that no one is alone. By standing side by side, we can send a powerful message of hope, support, and solidarity to those currently struggling, and to those who have been affected by loss. Every conversation, every connection, and every act of compassion can make a difference.

Dundee Women's Hub will be available alongside Wrasac Dundee & Angus hosting a stall with information around our services💜

✨Happy 3rd Birthday to us!✨

We are so proud to celebrate three years of growth, community, support and connection with women across Dundee💜🥳

We turned three yesterday and we look back with so much gratitude at years one and two. Those early years were spent side-by-side with the incredible women in our community and partner organisations building and developing this hub into the space it is today!

Your input, ideas, and voices have been the foundation of everything we do. We truly wouldn't be where we are without you, and we are so excited to continue this journey together✨💜

Today marks three years since Dundee Women’s Hub first opened its doors. Three years of creating a safe space for women with them at the heart of every choice made, every step of the way 💜

Over that time, the space, our team, services and groups have grown and changed, but our values have remained the same: to make sure women are heard, valued and supported to access the help they need and deserve. DWH has meant different things for different women – for some it is a place to join a group; for others it is to access support from a specific service or explore what support could look like. For another it could be to access our shower and laundry; and for lots it has been a someplace to simply take a much needed break in a safe place where they can be seen and heard. For services, DWH has been a place for learning and development, stronger partnerships and peer support.

Over the past three years, we have been incredibly lucky to be supported by so many organisations, groups and individuals who have donated, fundraised, shared their time, offered their expertise and believed in Dundee Women’s Hub ✨

Thank you to every woman, our DWH team, our partner support agencies and every individual who has helped us grow and develop. Dundee Women’s Hub has become a lifeline of hope, healing and community for many, and that has only been possible due to those have stood alongside us. The journey does not stop here. We are so proud of how far we have come, and excited for many more years of growth, strength and community. Happy Birthday DWH💜🥳
