🌱 2025 Future Farm Investment Round

Claims under the 2025 FFIS round have been extended to 30th September.

Successful claimants in 2025 must submit Geotagged photos, financial evidence and written justifications for the funds received last December by this date. Items must be completed and fully installed before claims can be submitted.

It is worth noting that any BPS payments due will be withheld until a claimants outstanding FFIS claims have been processed - We are seeing this week that claimants who submitted their evidence early summer still have not been processed and are therefore not eligible to receive their BPS payments, therefore those only now submitting evidence will likely have a significantly longer wait for future payments.

🐑 Changes to 2026 Sheep and Goat Annual Inventory

There are important upcoming changes to the Sheep and Goat Annual Inventory. From 2026, the process is becoming stricter and must be completed through the main ScotEID website to support traceability.

All businesses will need to be registered with ScotEID and listed on the site as carrying sheep in order to submit their response this December.

The form will be issued in early December and must be completed by 31st December 2026.

💰Making Tax Digital for Income Tax - Auto-enrolment and missed updates.

The first Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax quarterly deadline has passed, but plenty of people who need to comply still haven't signed up.

Starting September 2026, HMRC will auto-enrol anyone who should've registered from April but hasn't. These individuals will receive a letter or digital message explaining what to do next.

If you missed the first deadline, there is some flexibility. For 2026/2027, there are no penalties for late quarterly updates. However, it is important to note that all quarterly updates must be filed before you can submit your tax return.

Penalties still apply for late tax return submissions and payments.

If you receive an auto-enrolment letter or have missed the deadline, speak to our experienced accounts & bookkeeping team, who will ensure you stay compliant with MTD.

Agricultural grant and subsidy policy in Scotland continues to evolve, with the Scottish Government confirming another round of the Future Farm Investment Scheme will open in winter 2026, and changes to the minimum Ecological Focus Area requirements due to come into effect in 2027.
