Our resources are designed to support Jersey's hospitality industry and as its trade association we have a strategic role to provide leadership and direction for the development of the visitor economy so that maximum economic benefit can be achieved for the Island. We aim to deliver real returns for our members, positively promoting the industry's priorities through partnerships with government, trade partners, other associations and organisations by effectively representing hospitality and tourism in Jersey. We identify key issues and formulate clear policies to reflect the views and needs of a diverse range of industry partners who, in terms of turnover and work force, represent an essential part of Jersey's economic infrastructure and its social landscape. Moreover, we continually monitor policies that have an impact on this important sector of the local economy. The JHA continues to develop a portfolio of benefits and services that are designed to support all hospitality businesses across all sectors whilst promoting best practice to ensure service delivery to underpin a positive consumer experience in order to maximise repeat business and develop growth from existing and new visitor markets.

All 28 Deputies are now elected and for Jersey’s visitor economy, the picture is genuinely encouraging.

Across the nine constituencies, the Jersey Hospitality Association had formal engagement from 18 of the 28 Deputies elected, 13 of whom completed our full 16-point questionnaire, backing an average of 14 of our 16 asks, with just one “No” recorded across them all. Five more engaged with us directly through our Call to Action or in person.

But the picture is stronger still. A number of the incoming Deputies who didn’t go through our formal process this time including Victoria Li, Max Andrews, Karen Wilson and Lyndsay Feltham, have engaged and spoken with us many times over the years. These are people who know our industry, understand its importance, and we have an existing working relationship with. That matters.

Add it all together and we believe we have a new Assembly that is as well-aligned with the future of Jersey’s visitor economy as we have seen in a very long time. Not just in words, but on the record, in the data, and in the relationships we have built.

The work starts now. We’ve called for a multi-ministerial Visitor Economy Committee, bold thinking on investment and connectivity, and a modern approach to measuring what our industry truly contributes to Island life. The new Assembly has the people in it to make that happen.

To every incoming Deputy: our door is open, our committee is ready, and we are looking forward to working with you.

Jersey’s 12 parish Connétables are now elected and for our industry, their role really matters.

A Connétable is effectively the ‘mayor of their parish’. So much of what keeps our businesses running, licensing, day-to-day operating, the life of our high streets and seafronts happens at parish level. We hope every Connétable puts their parish first and makes the most of that role.

Ahead of the election we asked every candidate where they stood on the visitor economy. Engagement at parish level was modest with only two of the twelve completing our questionnaire and two positively engaging in another way. Now that the results are in, we’re keen to change that and to build a strong, open working relationship with every Connétable over the next four years.

Our industry gives every parish plenty to be proud of: quality of life, local jobs, vibrant communities and visitors who spend in parish businesses. We’d love to see every Connétable championing the visitor economy businesses on their patch and celebrating their success.

To all 12: our door is open, and we look forward to working with you for your parishes.

Jersey’s new Senators have spoken and the visitor economy was listening.

Ahead of Thursday’s election, the Jersey Hospitality Association asked every candidate where they stood on the future of our visitor economy. The provisional results are in, and for our industry they’re hugely encouraging.

All 9 of Jersey’s incoming Senators engaged with us. 8 completed our 16-point questionnaire, 4 met us in person and not one recorded a single objection to the asks our industry put forward.

That’s a clear signal: the people Islanders have chosen to represent them understand that the visitor economy isn’t just about holidays. It’s about connectivity, jobs, vibrant high streets and a diversified, resilient economy that benefits everyone who lives here.

To the ~300 businesses and ~7,000 people who make up our sector, your voice was heard 👏👏👏 To our new Senators, we look forward to working with you to turn these commitments into action.

You asked, we delivered… As Election Day on Sunday 7th June approaches, one of the most common questions we have received from members has been:

“We’re too busy for all this, who should we vote for?”

As an independent industry association, it is neither appropriate nor our role to endorse individual candidates. What we can do, however, is ensure that our members, their teams, and everyone connected to Jersey’s visitor economy have access to clear, factual information to help them make informed decisions at the ballot box.

Over the past year, the Jersey Hospitality Association has worked to ensure the visitor economy is firmly on the election agenda. We published our industry Call to Action, engaged directly with candidates, issued a sector questionnaire, outlined the key priorities identified by our members, and provided every candidate with multiple opportunities to demonstrate their support for the sector and respond to the issues that matter most to hospitality, tourism, leisure, transport, events, attractions, producers and the wider visitor economy.

The result is a transparent and unedited resource that records exactly where candidates stand based on their own responses, public statements and engagement with our industry.

With changes to Jersey’s election laws meaning more members of our industry are now eligible to vote than ever before, the visitor economy represents one of the Island’s most significant collective voices. Our sector supports thousands of jobs, hundreds of businesses, and contributes substantially to Jersey’s economy, culture and community life.

We therefore encourage every eligible voter within our industry to take a few minutes to review the candidates’ responses, use this resource to help inform their decision, and most importantly, make sure they vote.

To assist with the compilation and presentation of information, we have used AI tools to help organise publicly available sources and candidate responses. However, the content itself remains attributable to the original sources and candidate submissions and has not been edited by the Association.

The future of Jersey’s visitor economy will be influenced by the people elected next week. Make your voice count.

Very encouraging news from DFDS.

We have been working very hard with the team at DFDS Jersey to try and ‘steady the boat’ over the past year and it’s been filled with challenges for them to say the least! However, we are thrilled that their hard work and continued dedication to getting it right for Jersey is starting to pay off. Well done to all their team and let’s hope that the demand continues to grow and the numbers continue to rise.

One section really stands out to us and is so true:

‘And then there is tourism. This is the part that makes me angry. For an island whose visitor economy supports so many businesses, events, attractions and transport links, it is astonishing how little priority it is given by so many candidates.

It brings in outside money and gives Jersey atmosphere and life, yet, too often it appears only as a passing reference under “the economy”. That is irresponsible in the extreme.

We talk constantly about growth but barely mention one of the few sectors that visibly touches all of us. Something is badly missing in the conversation.’

So what are you going to do about this? We know we are so we need to demonstrate the impact that around 7,000 of us working in the visitor economy can have on Sunday by voting to change this.

We will be sharing the results of our questionnaire to all candidates with our entire membership later this week, who has said what, and who has said nothing.

This election is fundamentally different now that anyone who has resided in Jersey for 12 months or more can vote, this time, our voice will be heard.

This election could genuinely be decided by people who have never voted before.

Jersey’s visitor economy supports more than 7,000 jobs, over 12% of all employment on the island.

At the last election, turnout was only 41.7%, with just 17% of under-35s voting.

Now, for the first time, anyone over 16 who has lived in Jersey for more than 12 months can vote.

That means thousands of you across our industry now have a voice powerful enough to shape the future of our island.

If every business simply encourages their teams to engage, understand the issues, and get out to vote, the Visitor Economy could become one of the most influential democratic forces Jersey has ever seen. Not through politics. Not through parties. But through participation.

We will be sharing with our members a full breakdown of the engagement we have had with all candidates over our industry, its challenges and our recent call to action in the week before the election so that you can see the work we have been doing behind the scenes for you.
