The solid mass is perforated to create permeability on the ground plane across a triple-void pyramidal reception area stretching from one end of the building to the other, from the public street across to the more private hotel gardens on the other side of the building, offering uninterrupted panoramic views across the valley and beyond.

The final design offers a defined architectural expression drawing inspiration from the geological morphology of the Maltese Islands. Composed of three fragmented blocks, it transitions from a language of solidity into an architecture of layered plates recalling the eroded strata so characteristic of the Maltese landscape.

VERDALA TERRACES | 2025

Prominent and central to the project's concept are the terraces, perched atop the ridge and visible from afar. They transition from a language of solidity at the back into an architecture of layered plates, almost bridging the gap between the urban fabric and the natural landscape in front.

Privacy on each terrace is ensured by a purposefully designed perimeter that breaks the sightlines between terraces.
