Director, Pascal was the Wellington Manager for a large multi national air conditioning company for 8 years, giving him extensive insight into commercial air conditioning design and build. Pascal is a refrigeration engineer by trade (holding an Advanced Trade Certificate in Refrigeration), is IQP registered and holds an EST Electrical Ticket. This experience gives Smart Air an incredible insight into all facets of the heat pump and air conditioning industry. We can meet all requirements for both commercial and residential clients, and can also provide portable air conditioner supply, set up and installation (this is a rental service). Here are our top tips for keeping warm during this polar blast!
*Keep your heatpump filters clean - seems obvious (to us at least!) but clean filters can make a noticeable difference.
*Check the heatpump's outdoor unit is clear of debris, leaves and weeds etc. which can disrupt airflow - making the unit less efficient.
*Use the timer function - to turn it on just before you get home, it will heat the air quickly so you don't need to leave it on while you're out.

We've installed a few of these hot water heatpumps lately. If you're using gas or your water cylinder is near the end of it's life then it would be worth considering the switch:
Lower running costs (especially if you're currently on gas - those daily charges 😱)

Did you notice anything strange about your heatpump this morning?
Weird noises, not blowing warm air?

It might have been in a defrost cycle. On these especially cold mornings (I mean even the sand has frost on it...) ice can build up on the outdoor unit. The heatpump goes into a defrost cycle, which melts the ice so that the heatpump can work properly when heating your home.

It's completely normal and usually lasts about 5-10 minutes!
