We are excited to share that this Friday, our very own Bill Harris will be presenting as part of "An Autumn Evening at The Kingston", a gathering celebrating the past, present, and future of The Village of Cheshire in Black Mountain, NC.

Bill’s talk is part of The Cheshire Foundation’s Placemaking Lecture Series and he will be discussing how architecture, parks, pathways, and public spaces come together to build lasting communities.

The full evening includes:
4:00-5:00 PM | The Kingston Open House (See photos for a peek)
5:00-6:00 PM | The Future of Cheshire, a presentation by Founder & Developer Sikes Ragan
6:00-7:00 PM | Bill Harris, Placemaking Lecture Series

An open floor plan that we love: the Overlook II (20372).

Originally designed for a lot in Palmetto Bluff, SC, this plan offers two ways in from the front porch: a traditional front door, or three doors that open directly into the living room and kitchen.

This 3,205 square foot plan includes 4 bedrooms and 3 baths, two of which are primary suites. It’s a great plan with an open floor plan that makes sense.

When looking for a house plan, the first thing we recommend is starting with the layout. Find one that works for your family and the way you live. The exterior may get all the attention, but the layout determines how you’ll actually live in the home. Where will the furniture go? How easily can you get outside? Who’s sharing a bathroom with whom? You know, all the important stuff.

You can modify a layout, but you can modify an exterior, too. Trust us on this one: **start with the layout.**

Let’s take the London Mews house plan we shared last week. Its exterior is unique and beloved by those in our area, but there’s more to this plan than its curb appeal. The footprint is narrow, but with access to outdoor spaces on both floors, the home can feel much larger than you might expect. It’s those little details that make all the difference.

The Anchorage is a traditional plan through and through, and one of the originals in our Carolina Inspirations book. At 2,461 square feet, it offers 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and front and back porches made for soaking in the views.

Our favorite details? The staircase beside the front door that creates a classic foyer, and the double doors from the dining room to the porch.
