Here is an example of why not to use a handyman to install a water heater. This unit is designed to be installed on the exterior of the home NOT in the closet where the tank type heater uses to be. The carbon monoxide could very likely kill the homeowner and she had no idea. There is a reason professional plumbers are licensed by the state of Texas. We protect the public from stuff like this. Good evening everyone,
Cold temps are on the way so we are offering a few tips that might help out.
1) Remove garden hoses from outdoor faucets
2) Install a cover over the outdoor faucet(in order to work, these can not have any gaps where air can get inside the covers)
3) Know where your house shut off is. Some are in the garage, some in front flower garden and some may need to turn off the city meter
4) Open cabinet doors so warm air can circulate inside to help warm water lines that are on outside wall
5) If you have a fixture(lavatory faucet, shower or tub) on an outside wall, especially north facing then “drip” the fixture(s) because moving water is harder to freeze than water that is standing still
6) If you can reverse ceiling fans, that will help circulation of warm air in your house to better help get into those open cabinets
If you happen to get a frozen pipe, you won’t know if you have a broken pipe until it thaws out.

Temps are supposed to be below freezing tonight so make sure you have disconnected your garden hoses from your exterior hose bib to help to keep them from freezing/breaking.
