Planning a build or renovation? Save this before you talk to your architect.
1. EVER-Y SQUARE METRE COSTS YOU
Floor area is one of the biggest things that drives cost. Each square metre you don't build is money you keep. That doesn’t mean cramped. It means rooms sized appropriately and clever planning. Behind all of it is a solid brief, one that looks at how you live, not just what you first asked for.
2. SPEND WHERE IT COUNTS, SAVE WHERE IT DOESN'T
Not every room needs the same budget. Choose the spaces you’ll love and use most and put your money there (whether that’s a whole kitchen or a window seat for your morning coffee). The other rooms can be intentionally simple, while still getting the same thought.
3. DESIGN ROOMS THAT GROW WITH YOU
Rooms change over time, so we plan for that from the start. Every room you build is money spent, so we look for ways to give each one more than one job. A solid brief shows which spaces can share the load. In one of our current projects, the walkway to the master doubles as a narrow library and work-from-home nook. Design for the future now, and you may not need to build more later.Â
